    Celiac.com 09/18/2021 - With the end of summer near, the warm weather cocktail season is in its last throes before fall. Captain Morgan rum has earned a loyal following among cocktail drinkers. All of Captain Morgan's unflavored rums are considered gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease. Beware of rum with flavoring added after distillation, as they do not list flavoring ingredients, and may contain gluten. These cocktails are made with either Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum of White rum. 

    Here are seven great gluten-free cocktails to make with Captain Morgan rum:

    Captain Ginger

    Captain Morgan puts the twist on ginger ale.

    Ingredients:

    • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
    • 4 oz Ginger Ale (or Ginger Beer if available)
    • Mint Sprig

    Directions:
    Muddle mint and lime in the bottom of a tall glass.

    Add ice, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and Ginger Ale.

    Garnish with mint sprig and lime wheel, stir and server.

     

    Captain Iced Tea

    Iced tea, sweet or unsweet, with Captain Morgan is a perfect way to beat the heat.

    Ingredients:

    • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
    • 3 oz Iced Tea
    • Lemon garnish

    Directions:
    Combine all ingredients in a glass over ice.
     

    Captain Pineapple

    With a Captain & Pineapple over ice, you're halfway to a piña colada and all the way to summer refreshment.

    Ingredients:

    • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
    • 4 oz Pineapple Juice

    Directions:
    Combine Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and pineapple juice in a glass over ice.

    Garnish with a fresh slice of pineapple and a mini umbrella.

     

    Captain Long Island Iced Tea

    When you want to day drink while pretending not to, this is the drink for you.

    Ingredients:

    • 5 oz Captain Morgan White Rum
    • 5 oz Smirnoff Vodka
    • 5 oz Don Julio Blanco
    • 5 oz Tanqueray London Dry
    • 5 oz Triple sec
    • 5 oz Simple syrup
    • 5 oz Fresh lemon juice
    • 1 Cola
    • 1 Lemon wedge

    Directions:
    Add all ingredients into an ice-filled glass, except the cola.

    Top with cola and gently stir.

    Garnish with a lemon wedge.

     

    Frozen Pina Colada

    One of the legendary summer cocktails.

    Ingredients:

    • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
    • 0.5 oz Lime juice
    • 1 oz Cream of coconut
    • 0.5 oz Coconut water
    • 0.5 oz Pineapple juice
    • Ice

    Directions:
    Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

     

    Watermelon Sangria

    A fruity group cocktail that’s as red as Captain Morgan’s jacket.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cup Captain Morgan White Rum
    • 1 Large watermelon
    • 1 (750-ml) Bottle white wine, chilled
    • 1 cup Seltzer
    • 1/3 cup Lime juice (from about 6 limes)
    • 2 Limes, thinly sliced
    • 2 cups Assorted fresh or frozen fruit, such as pineapple, blueberries, and strawberries

    Directions:
    Slice off the top third of the watermelon lengthwise (save for later use) and score fruit with a knife. Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, scoop out watermelon and transfer to blender

    Blend watermelon until smooth. (If desired, strain seeds.)

    Add white wine, White Rum, seltzer, and lime juice and stir until combined, then add limes and fruit

    Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours, then serve.

     

    Captain Caipirinha

    Some think of the Caipirinha as the best way to enjoy fall. Others think of it as a perfect hot weather drink. They're both right.

    Ingredients:

    • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan White Rum
    • Half lime, cut into wedges 2 tsp
    • sugar

    Directions:
    In a glass, muddle the sugar and lime.

    Fill with ice, add the Captain Morgan White Rum, and stir briefly

    Garnish with a lime wheel

    One question we see a lot is about Captain Morgan rum. Specifically, is Captain Morgan gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is yes, mostly.
