It's so hot in NJ today and im just feeling ill and gross. It seems that now in addition to coffee, I seem to be having a problem with sweeteners? I drank some mio type stuff after breakfast and now I am having horrible pain in my stomach/ intestines, not sure really what it is. Is it normal to have problems with sweeteners? Im not having D,just pain so far. I should have just stuck with my lemon or lime water with breakfast.

Artificial sweeteners, especially sugar alcohols, can be a problem for people. Including myself.  I'm in NY and we are having the same weather here. It is important to stay hydrated but I don't need a lot of sugar and am not real fond of plain water.  I get plain flavored soda water, nothing but water and flavoring no sweeteners at all.

Some cooler and dryer weather is on the way and hopefully with it you will soon be feeling better. If you are near the coast stay safe with that storm coming.

Thanks Ravenwood. I think i should probably just stick with my lime or lemon in water. Darn me for wanting a little change in my life. It was supposed to rain at 2, then 3 and now, who knows. I can't wait for some cooler weather. Now we had a water main break down the road and there is news helicopters circling above the house and the doc next door is barking like mad. We are about 30 miles in land and this is our first storm season here. We went out for groceries last night and it was dark then when we got out it was pouring and multiple roads were flooded on our way home. I think we are safe in our apartment though.

I don't do well with artificial sweeteners, and I also hate the taste. Splenda tastes so bad to me, in the past before I read labels, if something had it in it, I could tell just by taste.  Splenda gives me a bunch of nondescript GI symptoms if I consume it... I have never consumed a lot, though, because of the horrible taste.

This says 'sucralose' not sure what that is, i just looked it up and its fake. I know 'ose' means its some form of sugar so It didnt occur to me that it was artificial when i purchased it. i know we don't usually buy artificial sugar products unless we make a mistake. Like that time my BF made a mistake of getting sugar free ice cream, i refused to eat it, he had one.. lets just say he had an EXPLOSIVE reaction to malitol.

Sucralose is commonly known by the brand name Splenda - nasty stuff made in a lab. It is low in calories because the body doesn't recognize it as being food so most of it goes right through you. But what does get digested is recognized by the body as being toxic and gets stored in fat cells. So it could still make you gain fat despite being low in calories. What gets flushed ends up polluting our waterways, showing up in water-quality tests way too quickly after it hit the market, and affecting wildlife now as well.

If you're looking for a low-calorie sweetener, stevia appears to be the safest option we have ... for now.

I had a similar situation. I thought I could do coffee, and was great for a week. then, major stomach pain. I even made it half decaf. I add splenda, too. I thought it was the coffee that was the issue, not the sweetener...

I don't touch artificial sweeteners either. Nasty stuff - in my humble opinion. It's hidden in foods you wouldn't expect too, so it can be one more thing to look for when you read labels looking for gluten. There is lots of info on the Internet about artificial sweeteners and the different names it is called to look for on labels. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

THAT IS DISGUSTING! I try to avoid them and I think I should just continue to avoid the stuff and just use regular sugar sparingly like I usually do.I thought it was just a fancy word for sugar.

baby- I have discovered I cannot drink coffee at all. Major pain, not even run to the bathroom either, just severe stomach/intestinal pain. doubled over, terrible.

Thanks for the heads up on Malitol. I don't normally run into these products in the places I shop or in the types of foods that I buy, but I got hit by Xylitol when my favorite gelatin brand went out of business and the store replaced it. Horrible nightmares and insomnia so I ended up throwing away the rest. Looks as if I'll have to do more research in order to avoid them, but most sugar alcohol names seem to end in "ol".

Hope you finally got your rain to cool things down.
