Sadmum

Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have googled and searched through some posts but not really found much info on this topic....

I have found one source that says DH sufferers have damage to their skin which allows gluten from topical products to pass through to the bloodstream, therefore causing reaction.

Does anyone find using moisturizing cream with wheat listed in ingredients cause their DH to flare up?

Anyone have any experience with this?

TIA

I do not use moisturizing lotions or creams with wheat listed in the ingredients. For one thing, if it were on my face, it can get into your mouth. If it's on my body I still do not use it. If I touch whatever part of my body it is on & then touch my lips or without washing my hands first, then I would risk getting it into my mouth. I use Vaseline Intensive Rescue repairing lotion on my body & it is gluten-free. I wash my hands a LOT and every time I do I put lotion on so I go through a lot of lotion.

I would never use any lotion or moisturizer containing wheat on any part of me that had any open sores or were subject to scratching from dh. Studies have been done that say the gluten molecule is too large to pass through the skin. What has not been studied (to my knowledge) is what happens if the skin is abraded or there is a lesion and gluten is applied to it.
