Anyone Else Experiencing Hormonal Changes?

Recommended Posts

Hi all :)  This is my first time posting.  I was diagnosed last October quite by accident after some mild curiosity.   I've been doing pretty good with avoiding gluten and have been feeling some hormonal changes this month.  I have noticed that certain foods that I normally despise the smell of (sauerkraut, beef stroganoff, liverwurst, and now sushi) are now appealing to me.  On the other hand, a coworker brought in some broccoli which I normally love, and it smelled like cabbage (blech).  I know what you must be thinking... go take a pee test right now because you're probably pregnant!   Before I risk doing that and getting ANOTHER negative, especially since I have no other reason to suspect that I am pregnant, I would like to know if anyone else has experience any of these types of hormonal changes as part of the healing process after being diagnosed. Thanks!

My cycles and pms changed quite a bit after going gluten-free, but I was also being newly treated for hypothyroidism so it could be either or both diseases that affected me.

After going gluten-free  my cycles became more regular and my period was shorter and lighter. I felt the fatigue of pms more but don't usually get the migraine now.  My nose was always very sensitive but it seems to have become slightly less sensitive than it used to be... maybe that's aging.  LOL

I'm sure others will chime in too.  Welcome to the board.  :)

I used to have PMDD before going gluten free. Now I sometimes don't remember my period is coming until it starts. It absolutely can affect hormones.

Social anxiety/depression my whole life

Bipolar and/or PMDD 2000

Gestational diabetes/ IBS 2009

Hypothyroid/ Anemia/ magnesium and vitamin deficiencies 2010

Gluten free 2011

2 week gluten challenge=negative blood test 2013

2 week gluten challenge=positive enterolab gluten antibodies test 2015

Pretty darn normal when I'm gluten free! Thyroid is fine, no more deficiencies, no crazy mood swings or terrible PMS.
