Reaction Time?

Hi all, 

I'm new here, so I don't know if this conversation has been around before, but I was just wondering what the general reaction time is once gluten is ingested? 

I don't know if I'm celiac or have NCGS or whatever, but I know that after I went off of wheat/gluten and dairy last June, I've pretty much stopped getting really bad stomach/intestinal unhappiness.

Two weeks ago I went to a wedding out of town and tried a few food that I know I should avoid, and I waited to see if I'd get a reaction, but I didn't notice anything. Then last week I took a crazy step and ate a couple of scones and within 24 hours I had debilitating lower back pain that lasted about 4-4.5 days, and soon after the back pain went away the diarrhea started. I know this is TMI, but I'm between doctors right now and I'm just looking to see if anyone else has ever gotten a reaction like that before.

The last time I had back pain that bad was in December, but I don't remember if I ate anything I wasn't supposed to before that pain started. I've been doing product photography at work lately and our lighting isn't that good, so I've had to contort myself into weird shapes to take the pictures and I thought the back pain was from that, but it just occurred to me today that doesn't make sense because I've done this kind of photography before without a problem. 

I know I'm probably dehydrated, which can't be helping (and can only be getting worse with the diarrhea), and I was taking arnica pellets for the pain and those contain small traces of lactose, and while I don't know if I'm actually lactose intolerant, I know that I feel better when I avoid dairy, so it could just be the perfect storm of nope, but I just don't know. 

I've been eating salad the past couple of days, but I just don't know if my body is absorbing the nutrients, which just frustrates me so much. I'm going to go back on my turmeric/ginger/honey/lemon/cayenne tea diet and try to expel the waste from my system, but this whole thing is bumming me out. 

So far the only lesson I can gain from this is "don't be an idiot, you scone-loving fool".

Thoughts?

Welcome! 

Have you been tested for anything? Have you seen a doctor about this? If not, my suggestion is to keep eating gluten and get the celiac blood panel and upper endoscopy biopsy (if needed).

Finding out what medical problems you might have is important, sometimes imperative, to getting the right treatment.

I was diagnosed as having celiac (blood test and biopsy) 2 months ago and react within 20 minutes of eating low levels of gluten due to cross-contamination. Lower levels cause lower levels of reactions with me, but they're still pronounced as due to gluten since food intolerance reactions I get are very different and don't last as long as the gluten reactions.

My main symptom is right upper abdominal pain I can feel a reaction in about 3 or 4 hours. This might be a delayed reaction however as the pain is somewhat lessened by sitting or laying down. Who know maybe it happens earlier but I am usually sitting or laying down after eating. I asked someone at work with celiac and they said 2 hours.

About two hours...or less.  Stomach cramps, and the "D."

I've been "glutened" less than a handful of times over the years since my diagnosis (and going gluten free) like seven years ago...but it's always the same story.

Oddly enough, a Red Bull seems to help me recover if it happens, honest.
