Purbread NOT gluten free

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

This company sells primarily in Pennsylvania but does mail order.

This company does not label "gluten free" but "gluten neutralized".  In their faq sheet and advertising they claim it is safe for "Severe Celiacs". So far, I have not seen any info as to how they know it is safe.  I see no actual testing to prove it.

Gluten Free Watchdog has tested it and found it to contain gluten well above the <20 ppm that is the FDA guideline for gluten free, and considered safe for Celiacs,  by most major (or all) Celiac centers.

this report is public -

https://www.glutenfreewatchdog.org/product/purbread-gluten-neutralized-bread-not-labeled-gluten-free/462

" The bread tested > 84 ppm gluten using the sandwich R5 ELISA and > 283 ppm gluten using the competitive R5 ELISA. "

The companies Faq sheet - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxAQee6YFPJ8V09VT0FmSW0zaTcwOXdfOWRKX1pCREpxM1Br/view

"IS IT SAFE FOR THOSE WITH DIGESTION ISSUES?

o Because we DO NOT use preservatives or yeast, along with our two

day neutralizing process, we have over 1500 customers who range

from severe celiac to barely gluten intolerant who have NO PHYSICAL

ISSUES with our bread."
