Hey,

I have a sensitivity to gluten, and I have been gluten free for a while. Today I started having a terrible cramp that I’ve learned I only get when I have had something with gluten in it. Recently I’ve eaten a nature valley whole grain granola bar, I wasn’t sure when I began eating them if they were gluten free, but for quite a few weeks they haven’t affected me. Now I realize this may be what is giving me the pain. Is there any advice or comments on why it has only recently started affecting me?

Thanks! I would appreciate any advice.

Some of that brand are gluten-free ,  but they will say they are.  Some of their  bars are not gluten-free because they do not use gluten-free oats.

If you are eating non- gluten-free oats or products made  with them, there is a possibility that some are actually gluten-free and some aren't.  So maybe a small amount of gluten has built up until it bothered you?  Or you got lucky until recently?  For a Celiac, some people don't feel a response until  their antibodies have built up from repeated gluten exposures.

Maybe it has nothing to do with gluten...

Funny you should mention this, I got a offer for some free ones from that company and just turned it down. The only gluten free products from the company are a 2 lines of dedicated nut type bars. The majority of their bars actually contain either barley (gluten grain) like the biscuits etc. Or whole grain wheat like many of their crunchy and nut and oat bars.   10% of people with celiac can also not tolerate oats btw. If your looking for a good bar many swear by Kind bars for quick nut snack bars. I myself prefer low carb dairy free protein bars like Julian Bakery (acquired taste) and Bhu Foods. If you insist on eating oats I might suggest looking into a company that is dedicated I used to use gluten-free harvest in my bakery, the family that started it has celiac  running in their family. http://www.glutenfreeoats.com/gluten-free-oatmeal/
