Steak 'n Shake Milkshakes

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with Steak 'n Shake milkshakes. After doing some research into what's Gluten Free there and what isn't, I went there for the first time tonight and was informed in vivid detail by the manager that EVERYTHING related to their milkshakes contained gluten, including the shake base, and that no flavors were free of wheat ingredients, which contradicts my independent research. I was curious if anybody else had stories to share?

Thank you!

Sorry, but I would never eat there as a celiac.   The risk for cross contamination is great.  I would BELIEVE the manager.  They probably glutened a few customers despite their best efforts.

Eating out is a risk, but it can be done.  Consider a nicer restaurant where the manager and chef are willing to work with you or find an celiac-friendly restaurant in “Find Me Gluten Free” .  Read the reviews made by celiacs.

We love In N Out (fast food on the WestCoast), but we know that they have a limited menu and that they TRAIN their staff to accommodate allergies.  Their shakes are safe,  not just the ingredients, but they do no mixing on site.  They never change their menu.  Oh, I take that back, they just added hot chocolate! The first menu change in decades!

I don't think  the manager knows what he is talking about or doesn't want to mess with " allergy" requests.  Which ever I think is, you don't want to eat there.

I know people with Celiac that eat at a local Steak and Shake - burgers without buns, fries and shakes.  So I think it just depends on how lazy the manager is?

He might know something and be scared of CC. There was a HUGE issue a few months ago in the food industry (article was on retraunt news sites) where a girl went into anaphylactic shock from a dairy allergy on a vegan milk shake....the machine had been used for a dairy version and cleaned but not enough. Brought up a whole can of worms with CC and legal issues again.
Following the above thought line, if they offer a cookies and cream version with gluten cookies.....the machines are CCed....the manager does not want to deal with or risk the chance of making someone sick and hurting his business, so he is playing it safe and saying that it is in no way safe to discourage you from trying it and giving him a wavier at you blemishing his locations names with food poisoning claims. Again following the same lines he could be not wanting to risk making you sick and is not comfortable claiming anything fixed in his establishment is safe....so best off not eating out there.
