BF Not Sick From Eating Gluten?!?!?!

Hi there,

I am new to this page, but with recent events, after some Google searches I came to this article, and had to post.

My boyfriend was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, and has been aware for some years now (others in his family have it as well). Recently, we moved from an Eastern province in Canada to the West Coast (aka Wet Coast lol). I will admit: once we moved, we were cheating on his diet. Big time. To our surprise, he did not get sick. At  all. IT HAS BEEN 20 MONTHS (!!!) of us not eating gluten free, and no illness. Nothing. Nadda. He even gained weight, and had to go up a couple belt loops too.

Well, I guess our luck has run out. The last 2 weeks, he has been sick. How could this be? A misdiagnosis? An allergy? We had trouble with his health before we moved, as it seemed even gluten-free food would upset his system. Then we make a huge move, and no illness. So I ask, why?

I don't understand it. I would be much appreciative of advice, suggestions, anything!

Looking forward to responses :)

Thank you!

I don't know how he was diagnosed, so I  am just going to comment for people who are legitimately diagnosed.

for some people, they heal well.  It can take a while for the body to make the antibodies needed to cause damage.  Then it may take a while for the damage to get intense enough for the person to recognize it.  Also, there are lots of things that are Celiac symptoms that are not as obvious - migraines, vitamin deficiencies and the problems they can cause,  osteoporosis, mental health issues, thyroid issues, etc.  Who know?  Maybe he has been having issues and been ignoring them or not realized they were happening?

I guess, if it were me, I would try to find out how he was diagnosed.  Just to make sure Celiac is actually his issue.

Thank you Ranchers Wife.  Since I'm asymptomatic, I would not know if I had gluten. I cannot imagine having to worry about getting sick from cross-contamination.
Hi Jenna1028, They test for DH by taking a small skin biopsy from clear skin next to a lesion.  If you have DH, you have celiac disease.  But, you need to be eating a gluten diet for 12 weeks (gluten challenge) before getting the skin bi...
To the OP, once in a while this stuff happens.  Please feel free to start a new topic if that would make it easier.  I am afraid this is just part of forums on the internet. I hope this didn’t chase you off.
