I would love to connect with other fellow celiacs about gluten free skincare and beauty. My first question: Does anyone use skincare/beauty products that have oats or oat derived ingredients? Why or why not?

I don't worry about it too much.  It isn't really important, unless it's something that might get in my mouth.

Our skin is our largest organ and very absorbent. If you have Celiac or Gluten Intolerance beware of gluten in skin care. I know many people that have issues. Remember not all negative effects are immediately noted or easily pinpointed. Some can be cumulative, tipping the scales :(

That's not at all how it works.  Skin can not " absorb" gluten.  Gluten is too large to pass thru the skin into the blood vessels.  A Celiac reaction occurs in the small intestine.  The gluten must be in the digestive system to cause antibodies to be made.

here is the link, again, to actual doctors that are Celiac experts

"Gluten is only toxic to celiac patients and patients with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) if ingested. Because gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin, the use of cosmetic and shampoos containing gluten has not been shown to be detrimental to patients with celiac disease or DH. However, we do recommend gluten-free lip products, hand lotions and other products that may end up near the mouth"

Anyone know of a good skin firming cream that you have okay results (as in not making you sick)? I keep losing weight, like none for a while, but then will lose some all at once, and I would love to find a cream for my neck.

Also, has anyone used products from Weleda and been okay or had bad reactions? They have this on their website and so I am not sure I dare ever buy their stuff again.  Darn wheat!  :

Do you use allergy-tolerated wheat starch or gluten in your products?

Weleda consistently works to bring consumers the highest quality and safest products, formulated with the finest ingredients. Some people have a digestive intolerance to gluten, a protein that occurs in wheat and other grains. It is unlikely for a person with gluten intolerance to have a reaction to a skincare product, since gluten can only be absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract. However, some people do have wheat allergies that may cause them to have skin sensitivities. Many Weleda personal care products contain alcohol derived from wheat, and some products contain wheat germ oil. We heat and distill our alcohol and filter our wheat germ oil to remove allergy-causing proteins, but we cannot guarantee that all of the residues are removed. If you have gluten intolerance or wheat allergies, we recommend that you consult with your medical practitioner before using any of our products containing alcohol, malt extract or wheat germ oil, as indicated on the ingredient label.
