Maltodextrin Query

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can any supersensitives confirm whether Maltodextrin has caused them problems. J have been on a super strict non processed diet for several years but my doctor has prescribed a medication that contains Maltodextrin. It may be corn derived but I have been grain free for years so very wary.

Many thanks,

I am allergic to corn and react to some things with maltodextrin, it can also be made from rice or tapioca in America. Perhaps you can name the medications and manufacture to see if anyone else here was experience. I would also suggest you contact your pharmacist and ask for details.

I also have issues with corn maltodextrin. I have an intolerance to corn derivatives. It rips up my gi esophagus , intestines, rashes, joint, muscle pain etc., but not an IgE mediated allergy for me. I usually assume OTC and Pharmas are corn based unless told otherwise. Most manufactured pharma use corn derived excipients these days. I would ask to speak directly to pharmacist to get the quickest most accurate answer, they may have to call you back. Last time I had to inquire about an OTC at Walgreens for one of my kids the pharmacist called me back in 20 minutes with the details. I am lucky to have a local compounding pharmacy in my town who would work with Tapioca for me, but they require a prescription and getting a doctor to write a script for myself or my children that is gluten and corn free has been my problem. On a side note I had to recently take a TB test to return to work force, and I reacted badly to it, no idea what ingredient I reacted to ( I was negative so all good result wise). I called my TCM/Chiropractor who gave me a "tune up"  so I could at least report to work by my assigned first day.

Good luck.

EDIT: Found inactive ingredient list maltodextrin source not listed. So definitely call pharmacist.

The other ingredients are: maltodextrin, talc-purified, methacrylic acid copolymer, macrogol 4000, triethylcitra- te, glycerol, titanium dioxi- de, iron oxide red, white beeswax, carnauba wax, shellac, gelatine capsule, capsule processing aid, purified water. 6.2 What Mutaflor® looks like and contents of the pack.

Edit 1/2019

My post about Walgreens must be adjusted. As it was specific to a particular pharmacist on staff. I stopped in recently to inquire about gluten-free otc and the person on staff gave me to another employee who also had no knowledge. So unfortunately I must report results will likely vary, based on who specifically is on staff. Too bad the Good ones need a day off.😉
