What’s your best or worst gluten-free find this week?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I am stealing this idea from someone on Facebook.  I just thought I would add “ worst” to it.

What gluten-free product/food  did you discover this week that is great or really awful or over- rated?

( please be kind. Some people may just not care for something while others may LOVE it)

Just kind of fun to learn about new products

Well I got closer to the perfect waffles selling at a farmers markets -_- I hate that I have to add a bit of tapioca starch to my mix, I mainly use coconut, almond, swerve, eggs, bit of butter flavored coconut oil, and baking powder. BUT to get the super fluffy soft texture I have to add the starch. Just barely fits my keto diet and I have to limit my intake or risk spiking my glucose and flaring my UC.

I saw those sipping broths and posted about them I think last year....sodium is my concern on those things but the tortilla soup one sounded wonderful (think my UC would hate it lol) Since childhood the broth of soups was always my favorite especially my mothers chicken and squash soup.

I recently got out 2 new recipes from my bakery, my original chocolate chip cookies were like a chips ahoy knock off (again with a bit of tapioca starch) My 2 new ones are a soft baked cookie that turned out interesting and a wonderful chewy cookie where I found a bit of gelatin in the mix gives it a slight chewy texture..bit like the ones my grandma valeta used to keep on the table but gluten free, paleo and keto.

I found out how to make chaffles (cheese waffles) from miracle noodles posting and tried it with vegan mozzarella...was pretty good adjusted to a 10min cook time...just wish I could dredge it in marinara and eat it without reserve lol.

Worst...well I will admit the pairing of turkey Italian sausage in salad with balsamic was not that great lol.

I miss falafel.  Made this recipe using gluten free dried garbanzas from Nuts.com, substituted gluten-free flour (made a double batch and half cooked the extra and froze them so I can eat just a few anytime, just heating in oven):

https://www.americastestkitchen.com/videos/4088-falafel?extcode=MCSAD10L0&ref=new_search_experience_2

And with these BFREE pitas from Amazon (they're too thin to split and fill, so just lightly warm and use them like a taco, folded in half:

not a product, but I did watch a cooking show where they made corn dogs with cornbread batter and hot dogs in a waffle iron.  I really want one now...……………..

canyon bakehouse makes good stuff.  I can only get the plain bagels here locally, but the everything bagels I have had in florida and they are spot on :)

edited to add:  we have the bfree pitas at our Kroger and they are yumm-o.  i made one with prosciutto, fig jam, parm reg, (broil) then topped with arugula tossed in some lemon juice, s&p o my gosh I almost gave my husband a bite.

almost...….

I would say this is my best find for this week, but I can’t find it!  Someone posted that they had found this Progresso gluten-free chicken and noodle soup.  It’s new!  They said it was tasty.  It looks like Progresso may be changing out their labels.  The stock of blue labels is dwindling at the grocery.  Maybe they will close out sale some of the gluten-free flavors soon.

it probably hasn't made it out of Canada?  why does it seem like Canada gets all the good gluten-free stuff first lolz

i'll look down here but, you know, even if there was a nuclear war, it wouldn't make it to east Tennessee until 2 years later......🙄🤣

Not really a discovery this week but - my air fryer.  Love this thing.  Makes the best French fries.  I just use Ore Ida and no added oil.  Or little red and purple potatoes with a light coating of olive oil. They come out so crispy and delicious.  And way less fat and calories.  I have done breaded cheese and chicken in it too!  All really good.

I keep hearing this from people who have the air fryers. My hubby loves fried food & I tell you, I'm so tired of grease coating everything.

You lose that fat feel that you get from fried foods, but they taste lovely.  Less like grease and more like potato or chicken .

Been meaning to try broccoli or something like that

We just had these ramen noodles for dinner with a stir fry.  Really nice.  Got a big bag at Costco.  Don’t remember how much but not bad.  Looking forward to it cooling off and adding them to soup.

Looks like about $10 for 12 ramen clumps-

I like the Aldi Rosemary and olive oil gluten-free crackers.  Just tried them this week and they have a lot of flavor.
