Brain fog, language barriers or perhaps being prescribed BELLADONNA? Poor MSFL- I'm glad you stuck with us even though things got ridiculous. Did you have any luck finding Pedialyte?

Great advice about the "Dangerous Grains", MSFL, you will get lots of great info there to help you back to health.

As for people choosing to be judgemental, I go by this philosophy. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, deserves the benefit of the doubt and my compassion and understanding until proven otherwise. If ever it turns out that it was someone was posting fraudulently, then you know what, so what? At least my conscience is clear. I helped out a person who needed it in my eyes, and I couldn't give a rat's behind if someone ends up making me "look like a fool", that's better than me kicking someone in the gut when they genuinely were reaching out for help......

JMHO.....

MSFL, any update on where you are going to stay?

Thinking of you,

Karen

The book "Dangerous Grains" is a great idea. I have bought so many to give out to doctors', friends and people who need to read it. I have 4 on order right now. I know money is tight for you at the moment. If you would email me with an address where I can send you the book (when it arrives), I will send it to you ASAP. The knowledge in there would help you to deal with the emergency room doctors' plus understanding this disease. You can click on my name and send me an email that way.

Armetta,

I think you are a sweetheart!!!

MSFL, see if your local library has a copy of it. Some do, some don't. Even it they don't have that one, perhaps they have other books on celiac disease that might help you (and cheap too!!! Can't get any cheaper than free!! Well, library use is free here in Canada, not sure about the U.S.)

I've seen a lot of scammers, hypochondriacs, strays, and other types over the years that join boards - complete with fantastic claims of medical catastrophes and stories of how their lives were destroyed by "evil" spouses, the United States Government, and other alleged wrongdoers. If the postings in question had not been blatantly melodramatic, I wouldn't have questioned them. The claim to be living on a single banana a day did not ring right, and other statements were also suspicious-sounding.

(This is a reply to everyone, but comes from what celiachap wrote...)

Another message board I frequent has had, from time to time, spats of fakers. Sometimes they're initially good, but get caught much later in a slip. Sometimes they're seemingly obvious to begin with. Sometimes, you think they're obvious, but later information makes you think they might be real. Different people on that board have taken to different tactics for dealing with suspected frauds - a very few call them out if it seems terribly obvious, some just don't reply, others give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume it's real. (I'm in the latter group, and have been caught a couple times, and felt embarassed myself, but meh... whatever.) Add to that the fact that some people do naturally sound melodramatic when they write (I do it if I'm stressed, but it's intentional), and it just gets really hard to judge the veracity of someone's statement. It's all a lot of faith - in anonymous people. Wacky, when you think about it. ;-)

MSFL- The most important thing you can do right now is drink lots of liquids- water, Gatorade or Pedialyte. Pedialyte is designed for children to keep them hydrated when they are sick and you can get it over the counter at a drug store. I don't know how much it costs but if you are budgeting for food, try to budget this in. And rest, make sure you rest.

I understand your fears of having to run to the bathroom, but you have to eat something besides bananas (although bananas do have lots of good nutrients). Try the BRAT like someone else mentioned before- bananas, rice, applesauce and the T stands for toast but forget about that for now. The T can also stand for tea so maybe try some decaf Lipton. You've GOT to stay hydrated.

Will you get health insurance with this job?

You know we are all rooting for you!

BERNESES i found pedialyte and im taking that. Seems to stay down. Also got me some multivitamins with non gluten in them so i will see how that work. Trying to drink some more.

Hi MS--I've been following your story and everybody had such good advice and suggestions that I could't think of anything else to add. I did want to say that I hope things begin to turn around for you. The new job is a great start. I completely understand why you only feel comfortable eating only banana. I had the urgency also before I went gluten-free. One food that I could eat during that time was Cream of Rice. It's cheap, and easy to find at a regular grocery store. You can make it in a bowl, in a microwave, or in a pan--whichever's easier for you (all you add is water). You can top it with the banana. Like Bev said, liquids are very important--especially now that you aren't absorbing much. Not doing so can be hard on your kidneys. Keep in touch with us--we're all behind you!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I have tried cream of rice a long time ago but i will try this again.

I am so glad you posted to give us an update. It's too bad the friend's brother couldn't have been more help to you. Have you given any thought to trying to add potatoes to your diet? Potatoes are my safe food, the only one that doesn't hurt me when I am in pain......

Keep us updated.......

Karen

Karen. I have tried potatoes and had the same result , meaning running to the bathroom right away. When i posted here first i had to describe the level of stress in my life to try to see if someone knew how much stress affect celiacs ? Now i understand also that it might be a combination of two diffrent things, and it might not just be what i eat.

Being at the hospital the last time i was so insulted by the Dr. he pretty much told me unless you are dying right now he cant help me. So. What else can i do.. ....

Now for the good news. Currently i'm in a hotel room outside tampa. How??. well i work as an software developer and have a good reputation for making a good job for the poeple i work for, and today the manager of IT could see i did not feel right and started to talk to me. So i told him what was going on and he whent to HR. HR called me in and said "We like you and dont like you to stop working. We have all had hard times in our life and we will help you out" So they put me up in the hotel for 2 nights and gave me a check for $500 that i can cash tommorow. They know my skills as an developer and i preciate that they will keep me around even if the private life is a mess currently.

I can understand why some people think this is a tale from someone. I wish it was, because mentaly it starts to eat me up . The first thingi will do when im back on my feet is to volunteer at the homeless shelter and give them donations. I have had a taste of this and still do and i dont wish this upon any of my enemies.

Back home in Sweden i would have been more "prepared". I think someone mentioned that her husband was Swedish. Well if you ask him what Social kontoret is he will let you know all the help they could have given me. Unfortnelly I dont have the same rights as an citizen then it is not easy. Not much help i can reach for.

Someone asked about health insurance. yes i will get BCBS on 1 st of feb.

Well i will check the forums from work tommorow again and try to let you know whats going on.

That's wonderful news!!! It reaffirms my faith in the human race! There truly are gentle, kind, wonderful people in the world who are always willing to give a person a helping hand when needed. I can even sense in your post a feeling of strength and hope that wasn't there before....... You just made my day, (and believe me, that's no easy feat considering the kind of day I have had!!!! :D;) )

Hugs, and keep us posted.

MSFL- So glad you found the Pedialyte and it's staying down. That's a start! Be careful with the vitamins- without solid food they might make your stomach upset. Be sure to take them with a banana and not the Pedialyte. If they give you a stomach ache, back off for awhile (or try to find a liquid multi-vitamin).

So glad you have a comfortable, safe place to stay and some cash in hand tomorrow! That's great news! As soon as you get that insurance on Feb. 1st, get to a doctor. Someone needs to evaluate you and test you for vitamin deficiencies etc. and make sure after all the trauma your body has been through you can get back on track. Make the appointment ASAP because some doctors have a waiting list. Explain to them that your situation is URGENT. Honestly, I think our health care system here is PATHETIC. Everyone should have health insurance and access to quality medical care.

As far as finding a doctor goes, ask around (your co-workers, etc. ) and find someone that people highly recommend. Make sure you tell the doctor you were diagnosed with Celiac's and of all your problems. Also, you may want to see if your BCBS covers therapy- having someone to talk to might alleviate some of your stress.

I am SO happy to hear about your good day. Best, B

What a wonderful company! Even when things were at my toughest, I would always believe that there was a reason for everything. And sort of totally off of the subject, what part of Sweden are you from? All I know about my family is that some came from around Lake Siljens. Some Grandpa or Uncle was originally named Hanson, Hannson, or whatever, didn't like the commonalitiy of it, so changed his last name to Siljenburg at Ellis Island. The other side is Helstrom, or maybe Halstrom. (it's been americanized, obviously)

Okay, back to thread - Start writing down your history. I mean everything, and now. That way you'll have everything for the dr when you do get to see him. Nothing left out. It will help him to help you. Write down questions, anything that comes to mind. Then your visit will be more productive.

And yes, the extreme stress you endured did not help you with your celiac. That's probably a very good reason your body took such a nose-dive. I'm so glad that things are looking up for you, now.

Keep us posted!!!

All

First time here and im trying to find a solution to my problems. I was diagnosed with Celiacs 2 years ago and the doctor gave me Acid folic and a med called belladonna.

6 months ago i got divorced and my belly started to act up. now i have lost the house, car all my assets and my job , health insurance and so on due to an evil ex wife. It feels like the celiacs has become so much worse to the point where i have lost over 80 lbs and now eat one banana a day.

I have been to the ER and they told me everything was in my head so i did not get any help. Have been there 2 times and the same story.

What can i do to settle down the stomach ? Anytips.. I cant visit my Dr because of the insurance so the only way is to try to do it with out the healthcare.

Oh i forgot.. im starting to have a hard time keeping stuff down and nasuated most of the days. diareea and pain out of this world... Its from the stomach where i always have problems when i eat gluten.

I know all my problems otherwise will be ok... but this is freaking me out...

So sorry to hear that. But you're among friends here. The laws and rulings in this country tend to favor the woman. Did you have kids involved? I'm glad you're keeping yourself hydrated. A couple of other things you might try, carefully of course, is ginger ale. If you can't stand the bubbles, then let it go flat. Or Chamomile tea. Can you tolerate pineapple? Thanks for keeping us posted.

No Karen - not really too far North - (except from Arizona! :) we are just a half hour East of Peterborough. YOu see , there are 4 Round lakes in Ontario I understand.

Yes Indeedy! it IS beautiful in Canada! Born n raised in Buffalo - with many Scottish relatives in Canada so spent many a summer camping with our children up further north. A cottage on a lake is our "dream come true"! Finally!!! (going in to our 7th summer there)

Guess this is a bit off the subject -- does that matter? should I have written to you personally ? :)
