How Often Do You Get A Check-up?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I've been gluten-free for a little over a year......And I was wondering how often is it recommended that one get a check-up?

I asked my GP the last time I saw him and he said he didn't know......Another clueless doctor! I have a call in to the specialist who did the endo on me and haven't heard back from her yet.

Just curious to hear what some of you "Celiac Pro's" do for scheduled health screenings?

Thanks!

At 7 1/2 months, I'm far from a pro, but I see my GP currently every 3 months to monitor my BP. During those visits, we discuss whatever questions I have about my general health. Normally, I would only go once a year for a check-up. (female stuff, blood work, etc.). I went back to my GI at 2 months after Celiac Dx and again yesterday. He wants me to come back in 1 year.

I am also seeing my PC doctor every 3 months for check up. My GI doctor told me he would do a follow up once a year, but to be sure and call and come back before then if I felt I need to for any reason.

I saw my GI after 6 months gluten-free, and then I will see him in another 6 months. After that, I'll probably go every 1-2 years.

Every 3 months. Next month will be 2 years gluten-free.

Hi cleveland bob,

I don't see a doc for celiac stuff. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I do see a doc if I need to about other stuff. I've heard that a one-year blood test check for antibodies can be useful, to see if you've really eliminated all the gluten you think you have. Also, it lets the doc know if you're complying with the diet. I know I'm complying with the diet, so I haven't bothered.

I don't, except for bone density tests for celiac related early ostoeporosis I avoid all doctors like the plague. After all the only thing they ever did for me was make me sicker and prescribe psychotropics. The one time I went to the ER after diagnosis I was bleeding from my intestines after a severe glutening and they barely looked at me, even though I have extensive diverticulosis and was fearful one of the buggers had popped they couldn't care less. Sure they would love it if I came in every couple months to say 'yea doing fine, still on my diet' , after all they must miss the 17 grand they used to get from me in co-pays a year. The next time a doctor sees me will be on a slab, many gluten and drug free years from now.
