Hi celiac3270! I think the significance lies in the different ways that celiac is treated in different countries, and what kind of resources are available in the different areas. It also helps with moral support if someone on the board is from your area, because maybe you could get together for shopping trips (spoken like the woman that I am!) and picnics or dinners, or swap child care so a night out could be had.

hey im from michigan it would be really nice to talk to someone from michigan with celiac disease the only people i talk to that have celiac disease are from canada (which there is nothing wrong with that) but it would be kinda nice to know there is someone that may live near you that is "like you" know what i mean? it would be really cool if some of us michigan people could swap email addresses or somethin! mines pippigirl32@hotmail.com email me when ever ya wanna i would love to hear from ya!

      Hi  - Anyone have any experience with these? I bought them at Costco thinking they must be gluten-free, but now I see Natural Flavors and Spice in the ingredients. There's no Gluten Free labeling. However the Costco site and two other sites say it's gluten free. Anyone know?

      Yes, I doubt you can find a perfectly safe restaurant--perhaps a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, but in general, very few of them exist, and they tend to be in larger cities. Super sensitive celiacs should probably just avoid eating out.

      Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal.       Welcome to the forum, @Kenz! Eating out is the number one threat to anyone with celiac disease. The best advice I can give is "don't"! Especially if you are supersensitive. The biggest problem isn't avoiding gluten in what you order but in how it is prepared and handled back in the kitchen where cross contamination can and does happen at multiple stages before it gets to you. You would need to have conversations with the cooks and receive assurance that your food is cooked on clean surfaces and in clean pans and handled with clean utensils, separate from anything that contains gluten.

      I am new to this and have severely struggled to find places I can eat where I will not get sick. I am super sensitive to any cross contamination and gluten. I throw up, use the bathroom, get disoriented, can’t walk, can’t even lift my arms, legs, or head. It’s honestly so scary when I come in contact with gluten. I do live in a town where there aren’t many options. I live in Gadsden al. So if anyone has any recommendations of places to eat that would be so helpful .
