Recommended Fiction Reading for Celiacs

My daughter just thoroughly enjoyed a book we came across where the main character has celiac disease. Does anyone have other books to recommend? Books that include someone with either celiac disease or severe allergies? The book she loved is supposed to be for readers 8 to 14, but I had fun reading it, too. Here's the information if you or your kids are looking for extra hobbies during pandemic isolation: Roller Boy by Marcia Strykowski. It's a good clean read about a young boy who roller skates. Includes many examples of problems he runs into because he can't eat gluten, from hanging out with friends, carrying his own snacks, and even a trip to the food store. Here's a link to it. I'm sure you could get it from Amazon and other online bookstores, too. Any other books like this to recommend? https://www.regalhousepublishing.com/product/roller-boy/

Hi Maura I am not aware of any books. I looked a few years ago, but didn't find much.

I'm glad you found good luck on the search

If you are open to non celiac topics for reading one of the stumbled upon books at the library my son enjoyed years back was time cat

Happy reading

Oh, yes, I remember Time Cat, a wonderful book! I enjoy all sorts of subjects, but discovering Roller Boy was a real treat. Kids feel less weird when they read about other kids going through the same problems. In Roller Boy, celiac disease isn't made a big deal of, he just happens to have it and deals with it in a positive way. The rest of the story is full of fun, action, and friendship. I came across another book recently about a girl with severe peanut allergies, but I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, thanks for your response and for reminding me of Time Cat!

Thank you both. I haven't had access to the test results but will get them and post here.

The ulcers are prepyloric ulcers. Not sure if that makes any difference.

Duodenal ulcers are not uncommon either and often result from H.Pylori infections. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/duodenal-ulcer

I had what was termed "lesions," and normally ulcers are in the stomach, rather than the small intestines. I'm not sure why they would want you to have her continue to eat gluten, since she had a positive blood test, but as her doctor said, if she is uncomfortable and having symptoms why not have her go gluten-free at this point? If her symptoms improve, it would be another indicator that she has celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
