Edible Food Coatings

Does anyone know anything about edible food coatings made from gluten? I downloaded a document from the Canadian Food Agency on allergy labelling from 1999, and came across this statement:

"Of concern to individuals with celiac disease were gluten-based coatings for fruits and vegetables being developed in Europe. because of the serious consequences of small amounts of gluten in the diet of celiac patients, it is essential that all gluten sources be completely labelled."

Since the document is already 7 years old, I wonder if these new edible coatings are now in use. I am digging up information myself...no luck yet. But if anyone has heard of this, please post your findings here.
