I have two food related questions 

1- I was looking to substitute barley to make gluten-free mushroom barley soup

has anyone made this soup and how did they sub it? An article I read talked about Job’s tears ( Asian barley) and said gluten-free but word barley makes me nervous

anyobe know about this or have recommendations for this soup? I miss it

 

2- does anyone know if manischewitz soup mixes are gluten free? Pea ir bean flavor perhaps?

I believe that Manischewitz does make gluten-free mixes, but you would need to read the ingredients/label to be sure.

Also, quinoa might be a good substitute for the barley.

4liberty Newbie

For Mushroom Not-Barley Soup, you might be able to substitute whole-grain kasha, gluten-free orzo, or short-grained brown rice. Hmm...I think I want to experiment with these!

      The ulcers are prepyloric ulcers. Not sure if that makes any difference.

      I had what was termed "lesions," and normally ulcers are in the stomach, rather than the small intestines. I'm not sure why they would want you to have her continue to eat gluten, since she had a positive blood test, but as her doctor said, if she is uncomfortable and having symptoms why not have her go gluten-free at this point? If her symptoms improve, it would be another indicator that she has celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
