2 months after going gluten free

I'm 17 and I've always had a problem with eating processed food. I was constantly bloated, but I shrugged it off, thinking, that everyone had this problem. Well my bloating got really bad this Febuary, so I strated to look into it a bit more. That was when I realised that I might have celiac. I wasn't eating gluten for a week but my symptoms weren't improving, so I was like f$#% it, and ate some pancakes. Realizing my mistake I started my diet all over, and I've been feeling a lot better. One thing that I'm concerned about is that I'm still bloated almost every day (it has gotten a lot better) and I'm not sure if that's normal. I don't think that it's because I've been exposed to gluten accidentally. Did anyone else have this experience with bloating?

Welcome to the forum, vikikem!

It's easy to cut out major sources of gluten but much harder to eat totally gluten free. It requires education and diligence to root out the hidden sources of gluten that can compromise our healing. This might be helpful: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=The+Gluten-free+diet+101&atb=v352-1&ia=web

You may also have another, non gluten, food intolerance that is causing the bloating. Dairy products are a common one in the celiac community. The dysfunction of the immune system in celiac disease often leads to developing intolerance to foods not containing gluten. It's part of the "leaky gut syndrome" experienced by celiacs.

One thing to consider before going gluten-free is that you can only be tested for celiac disease when you are eating gluten daily for ~6-8 weeks. If you know that gluten causes you serious issues then you may decide to bypass such testing. This article may be helpful:

      The ulcers are prepyloric ulcers. Not sure if that makes any difference.

      I had what was termed "lesions," and normally ulcers are in the stomach, rather than the small intestines. I'm not sure why they would want you to have her continue to eat gluten, since she had a positive blood test, but as her doctor said, if she is uncomfortable and having symptoms why not have her go gluten-free at this point? If her symptoms improve, it would be another indicator that she has celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
