Hi!! My name is talia, i’m new here and im looking for advice. I was diagnosed only two years after the gene was triggered. My symptoms include brain fog, fatigue, inflamed joints, insommnia and low mood. I have been eating mars bars a lot after “rediscovering” them. Today i discovered they are made with barley. I’ve been eating them since halloween and i hadnt noticed any symptoms. I’m hoping someone has some advice on how to identify my symptoms besides bloodwork and “being under the weather.”

Welcome to the forum, @Talia.io!

I'm afraid your post is confusing to me. If you aren't having symptoms, how can we identify your symptoms? Are you asking about symptoms that you may be overlooking that may help you spot unexpected gluten exposure?

Switch to Snickers.  M&M Peanuts are my favorite.  My surprise was Twizzlers.  I always though they were all sugar but when I finally read the label, turns out they are mostly Wheat!  If the Mars were you're only unintentional gluten, you learned a lesson.

With that gluten out of your diet you may get past that plateau I guess you are stuck on.

Celiac Disease causes malabsorption, so on your new diet pay special attention to your vitamin and minerals.  If you use sunblock take vitamin D, without unprotected summer sun or vitamin D pills you will have low vitamin D and that comprimises your immune system, bone density, dental health, and even mood (winter doldrums become year round).

Sadly, too many doctors just say "don't eat gluten. See you next year"

Theres lots of good info here. Poke around.

yes, I was having symptoms but because i don’t get physically ill they can be hard to identify. It manifested as trouble sleeping and pain in my legs and feet, which i attributed to other factors which was on me.

I’ve had celiac disease for about 5-6 years and on occasion i’ve eaten gluten without realising through cross contamination and whatnot. I do have low vitamin D, so thank you for the advice. Unfortunately ive been eating mars bars consistently for about 5 months to “treat myself” when i feel down. I’m hoping to get into a GI who can help me figure out if there’s any damage to my intestines and stuff.

You should re-examine your diet for gluten and be sure you're 100% gluten-free, and then the symptoms should go away.

This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

It's best to find gluten-free treats, and this may be helpful:

Welcome to the forum, @Bebee, Yes, Celiac Disease has genetic commonalities with MS, hypothyroidism, arthritis, Reynaud, and rosacea.   Usually a gluten challenge is done before endoscopy with biopsies taken,  however I would not recommend a gluten challenge before endoscopy with biopsies for you since you have been gluten free for so long and have so many concurrent autoimmune diseases.   You can still have the endoscopy with biopsy samples taken now.  After several months with dietary changes, you can have another to compare results and check that intestinal health has improved.   You can get a genetic test for Celiac disease which shares genetics with other autoimmune diseases that you have.  Eating gluten is unnecessary for genetic tests. For the rosacea, get checked for SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) that could be causing gastrointestinal symptoms as well as causing skin issues.  Our skin is a reflection of our gastrointestinal health.     Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet has been helpful in keeping my own rosecea, eczema, and dermatitis herpetiformis and other autoimmune diseases in check.   Be sure to be checked for nutritional deficiencies that occur easily in gluten free and dairy free diets. Keep us posted on your progress! References: Clustering of autoimmune diseases in patients with rosacea https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26830864/ And... I am new here, I have been diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis (Lymphatic) years ago and have been gluten-free, DF since, but I still can have occasional bouts of diarrhea (still trying to figure that out).  I also have MS, Hypothyroid, Arthritis, Reynaud's and my rosacea has been acting up lately.  What treatment is suggested to help with rosacea?  I would like to know too if there is a test for celiac if you have been gluten-free?   Thank you, Barb

Well, that's interesting. I am lactose intolerant and have been managing that for years. I'd be interested in seeing if that changes once I feel better from not eating gluten (one thing at a time for now, though). Helpful to hear about the avenin. I will do some digging and pose that to the dietitian. Grateful for your feedback.

Recently my daughter ate in nandos harlow I rang in advance to speak about the celiac protocals and learned that childs portion chicken nandinos is cooked on the same grill as garlic bread even if they are celiac! Even if you clean it this is not good practise and will be making many children ill. I learnt adults butterfly chicken cooked on a grill purely for chicken.  This is fine and what we ordered however nandos need to take note of your practises for the safety of celiac children. my daughter has been ill from their nandinos chicken before and i emailed head office and they wouldnt accept responsibility
