Blood results

I received my blood test results, which I am attaching. My doctor says that the test for celiac disease is negative, but we are still waiting for the gastroscopy. The report mentions that additional blood tests might be needed, if I understand it correctly. I would appreciate an explanation if anyone knows more.

Just type the test results in a new post, please. Make sure you include not only the test scores but the reference ranges.

Tissue Transglutam. TTG-IgA-AB <0.1

As far as I understand, the TTG-IgA level is too low. The doctor told me that based on the blood test, it's not celiac disease. I am still waiting for a gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Is that the only test that was ordered? Was there a "total IGA" test ordered? That is far from a comprehensive celiac antibody panel.

No that is it. Is gastroscopy likely to provide accurate results?

When the blood draw for the antibody test was taken, had you already begun cutting back on gluten ahead of that?

The gastroscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining is considered the gold standard diagnostic test for celiac disease. But like with the blood antibody test, to be a valid diagnostic tool, you would have need to have been consuming regular amounts of gluten up to the time of the procedure. Starting a gluten free or a reduced gluten diet ahead of either kind of testing will invalidate them.

There is also the possibility that you don't have celiac disease but NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which is 10x more common and shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease. NCGS does not damage the lining of the small bowel, however, and there is no test for it yet. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.

I am consuming gluten normally. So, should I still undergo additional blood tests despite the gastroscopy?

When is the gastroscopy scheduled for? If there is a significant wait period, I would ask the doctor to run additional blood tests including:

Total IGA

DGP-IGA

DGP-IGG

If the gastroscopy is coming soon, just go for that. But don't start the gluten free diet until all testing is done. Make sure you are consuming an amount of gluten daily equivalent to at least 4-6 slices of bread.

What symptoms do you have? Why are you being evaluated for celiac disease?

Thank you both. I haven't had access to the test results but will get them and post here.

The ulcers are prepyloric ulcers. Not sure if that makes any difference.

Duodenal ulcers are not uncommon either and often result from H.Pylori infections. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/duodenal-ulcer

I had what was termed "lesions," and normally ulcers are in the stomach, rather than the small intestines. I'm not sure why they would want you to have her continue to eat gluten, since she had a positive blood test, but as her doctor said, if she is uncomfortable and having symptoms why not have her go gluten-free at this point? If her symptoms improve, it would be another indicator that she has celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
