Can Someone Explain Why The Abdominal Pain?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just wondering if someone can explain to me why or how does gluten give you abdominal pain?

I have not been dx'd yet. I see my dr on the 27th with the blood results. But I have been staying

away from gluten for 6 days so far and I was actually starting to feel better but then on the 6th day

I ate a hamburger with the bun (just to see) and about 4 hours later I started getting the abdominal

pain and the sick feeling, it lasted for 2 days. I still dont feel great but my abdominal pain has lessened some.

I just cant seem to understand the abdominal pain? Can someone explain it to me so I can understand it.

I understand that if you have Celiac disease that the villas are smooshed but I dont really understand why that would cause the pain and suffering?

Thanks!

Joyce

I can remember reading about this recently (I am also waiting for a diagnosis), but since the villi in your small intestine become flattened, they don't absorb nutrients such as fats, proteins, and such, thus they go directly to your large intestine where they are attempted to be broken down, and a by-product of this is gas, which therefore causes the bloating and abdominal pain...

hope this makes sense.

CarrieBoo,

thanks for responding~

That makes perfect sense. I needed it broken down for me!

Good luck in your diagnose and I wish you the best!

Thanks again, Joyce
