Spunky Spice for Judy. Of course, as we have just learned on our Silly Yak thread, "spunky" has an ENTIRELY different and repugnant meaning in England.....egads........

Oh yeah.....I learned a new word I didn't really want to learn......

Definately need to come up with a new spice name for Judy.

I'M SO GLAD. I CAN JUST PICTURE YOU DOING IT ;)

AH MY SUSIE Q :( I HOPE IT'S THE CHIPS. AFTER A 1/2 HR DISCUSSION WIHT THE BAKER- DID YOU ASK WHAT FLOURS THEY USED?

YES SPUNKY SPICE, I KNOW ALL THE FLOURS. ALL WERE SAFE. *but* THERE IS A DAIRY-FREE MILK IN IT AND ALSO AN EGG REPLACER - - SO I WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT THE ACTUAL PROBLEM IS. I DON'T THINK IT'S THE TERRA CHIPS - VERY SAFE INGREDIENTS AND NOT ON SHARED EQUIPMENT.....AND THAT REACTION WOULD HAVE HIT EARLY YESTERDAY AM.....THIS WAS MORE LIKE MY FAMOUS "CHEATING" OF LAST SUMMER.....MUST HAVE HAD SIGNIFICANT GLUTEN AS THE REACTION WAS QUITE HEINOUS AND QUITE DELAYED......

:( BUT GRIEVING THE LOSS OF MY NEW SOOOOOPER YUMMY BREAD. HARRUMPH!!!!!

Ok I woke up with a bug up my butt today its reallly early and I have already made and packaged gluten free brownies and choclate chip cookies for my friend who just had a baby. Cleaned my kitchen, and done my laundry. I know in like an hour i will be ready for bed!!

Yay! what a great and ambitious morning! now just let yourself relax and do something fun. And BTW your appointment sounds very interesting.......

Susan-

IF you keep saying nice things about me you are gonna become my favorite rachelville resident and I would hate to participate in favortism. (so everyone else pretend you didn't read that and only me and my dingo girl will know about it)

;) it'll be our secret, cutie. :)

[and no, I"m one of the lucky ones with no other intolerances except undercooked broccoli, and you do not want to be around for that (Farts Like Machine Gun Bev)]

No, it was a sheared beaver coat, drove there in my old Suburban, with ALL six kids. It was a co-op grocery ... not something mainstream like Wild Oats. I puzzled everyone there!

.

 that is such a hoot......

have a great day today with all your activities and we'll see you later, Minxie.

Yeah, I've been guided too...guided to this thread, and what are the odds that "someone" from my area would be a participant and would be able to give me the names of some great doctors who would end up helping me as much as they helped her!

:) the Lord does work in mysterious ways! Hope you have a very productive appt. today.

OK- I clicked "add reply" because I had something to say. I have, in the 1 second it took to load, dingo'd it.

 I know - a mere second and poof - it's vaporized -

********

Thank you all for your concern adn kind words. Had a rough night.......but finally slept, turned off phone but was awakened repeatedly by mysterious sound that incorporated into my (very entertaining) dreams....it was my cell phone. Nanny Lauren stopped by (she is the girls' nanny and not mine) to pick something up but I was able to sleep until about 11. Heavenly. Feeling much better today after my scatological terror and release of toxins. :)

Now must walk the girls, do some planting, mow lawns and clean the studio, which is beginning to succumb to the encroaching squalor......things are EVERYWHERE and I have to put certain projects away. Can't stand that!

LOVE AND HUGS TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan, sorry about your glutening. :(

I am so glad someone besides me still reads classic literature!

I love the classics. It was almost a hobby for me till my brain went on vacation. :)

Dear Carla,

Is Morgan enjoying her new job? I am not surprised that no one has asked for a gluten-free menu yet. That is not commonplace right now. I never have heard of the restaurant your daughter is working at. Is it in Indiana or Ohio?

She's in Ohio. There's a Bonefish Grill in Indy, it's where the old Malibu Grill was between Keystone at the Crossing and Castleton Square Mall.

Most counties only had one or two cases, though. However there was one who had many more than all of the others: Vanderburgh! Guess where I live? There was only one other county that had 10 cases, but still much fewer than this county! I wonder why we had such a high rate of Lyme while everyone else does not?

I think the reason for some counties having more cases is because there's a doctor there who diagnoses and reports. I was CDC positive and it wasn't reported. Also, out east I think there is just more reporting because there's more diagnosing. It would be interesting to see if our infection rate is as high as theirs.

Maybe carla should be temperance spice- because she has such good self restraint

Funny, but boring. :P:lol: I have to be more exciting than that!! Even if it is fitting.

Dear Carla,

You got to have ice cream, then popcorn, then free Shrek! :) That sounds great! I bet that was fun! Today you get to see George! Now that is a good day!

Oceans was last night -- date night. Shrek is tomorrow. ;) Pool today as soon as I finish this post.

I think once Celiac is triggered, always a Celiac.

Yes, I meant no candida, but still gluten-free. The candida should be able to be cleared up, then some treats should be able to be had every once in a while without causing issues. This is what happened with me ... as far as the candida anyway.

Oh, bball meant basketball. Guys would know that. LoL :P

I lived in Indiana for 16 years ... there is only one sport there ... I still thought baseball, perhaps because it's baseball season and I go to way too many games with 3 kids playing, or perhaps because two people mentioned baseball.

Carla- you CANNOT be Beaver Spice (obvious connotation  ). You could be Fertile Myrtle Spice- our goddess of fertility :P

Uh, yeah, that would be bad.

But then - - she has some other oxymoronic glamorous qualities......

:lol: I LOVE this!!! I often feel like an oxymoron.

With that said, JUDY needs a Spice name. I'm thinking my Aunt Judy is SPUNKY SPICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah....Spunky Spice for Judy!!!

And, yes to tenacious spice for Rachel!

Maybe I can rachel my Spice names??? :P

Rachel - I didn't have to stop my supplements for the second session...only the first.

Hmmm.....I had to stop my supplements for both my sessions but of course they werent both done by Dr. Amy.

OK... looks like I didnt need to stop taking stuff cuz I just read Dr. Amys letter and it didnt mention stopping supplements.

Her last letter did say to stop everything. I guess I'll take my normal stuff today. :)

Dang....I had the same preperation for Dr. Amy as I did with Scott...so I figured this was the "routine".

So yeah...if you do end up scheduling to see Dr. Amy...you will have to stop everything you're on before you see her.

DingoGirl Enthusiast
Yeah....Spunky Spice for Judy!!!

Maybe I can rachel my Spice names??? :P

.

I don't see why not, you do rachel everything else.... :P

I think we can report in as whatever Spice we feel like, as in

Hi-dee ho, all, Sweaty Spice reporting in! (that would be me, who just mowed the lawns and hand-cut the edges - wheed whacker be damned - - and raked and walked the girls) :)

and then we can just give ourselves or be given by BEV :P whatever moniker suits our present state.

ha ha!

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Susan...or ummm...is it Sweaty Spice??.....are you feeling better today?? I meant to add earlier that I do think its the bread. <_<

MAJOR BUMMER!! :(

Its gotta be the bread since its coming from a bakery that is not exactly a "dedicated" gluten-free bakery. Lots of opportunities for major cc I would think.

I see Donna....waiting anxiously for her update...

Oh, bball meant basketball. Guys would know that. LoL :P

I saw someone mention baseball, gave me a laugh... I think most of the Rachelville females would know bball is basketball though... I started playing ball again this year for the first time in 2 years and have been playing regularly for the first time in probably 4 years... wasn't sure how starting antibiotics would affect that... first week was rough but I've adjusted to the meds for now and have still been able to play each week... probably gonna play in a winter league this year...

not being able to ball last summer was just about the most frustrating thing about getting sick... I was always making up excuses when cats were going to the courts... my fatigue, energy, and general physical symptoms are much better now than they were a year ago, which I attribute largely to avoiding offending foods and candida diets...

Um, I think I was one of the ones who said baseball, oops, thank God because I loathe baseball, but basketball is really quite tolerable and in fact can border on the enjoyable at times. ;) JUST DO NOT TALK ABOUT FOOTBALL........

 (well, I"m over it now but last year the dear Amazons of Rachelville helped me put a hex on a certain team which, to my extraordinary titillation, resulted in their WORST LOSING SEASON in 80 years, hence severely damaging (but without inflicting actual direct injury) my season-ticket-holding ex-boyfriend-not-quite-fiance  [insert barking mad, devil-horned diabolical winky face here - - MOO HOOO HOO HAA HAAA HAAA HA]

well, we're gonna have problems in a few months once football season starts... just remind me not to piss you off since the Eagles don't need any more bad luck... philly teams more than manage to frustrate their fans on their own..

I'm guessing your ex was a Raiders fan... you know it's cruel to put a hex on a team that already sucks, right? B) they were struggling enough to get to 4 wins a year without you rallying your sisterhood rachelvillians for your diabolical plot... but I'm alright with it.. just keep the hexes over on the west coast, or at least down in dallas if that's not enough for you...

Well today I am officially FREE Spice! Or Broke Spice! Or Fuzzy Spice! And, definitely Smilie Spice!

I just had my LAST regular BioSET session. My next one will be with Anna, and it is the last one where she'll recheck certain things, test me for miasms and recheck my toxicity, etc. After that, I may have a session here or there and may need to come back for "maintenance" sessions, but we're done treating.

Today's session was insects. As expecte, I reacted to a lot of stuff. Ants (see where my love of relocation comes from with these little pests) and black widow spiders came up along with a bunch of other stuff. They were cross reacting with lots of organs and such. Ticks did not specifically come up, but they may have been in one of the mixes. Flies DID come up though, so I wonder if I got bit by a fly while in a foreign country. Heck the ones we have around here are nasty too. :P

And, I now have bright lime green fuzzy slippers and pretty purple fuzzy slippers to alternate with my bright pink fuzzy slippers. :P

I think I know why. It starts w/ the common leaky gut. Healthy intestinal walls have tinier spaces between cells. When those spaces expand, there's room for partially digested food particles to sneak thru to the bloodstream.

Once there, everybody's like "hey who's the new guy" and antibodies are made to protect against the foreign invader. If fully digested before getting to the bloodstream, it's same old same old, but the leaky gut let a different molecule thru.

It's even why the foods eaten most often will be most likely to have this 'allergy'/sensitivity created. Bummer.

I think it's how corn became a problem for me.

Anyway - that's the story I've heard and I think it's pretty widely accepted.

I was diagnosed w/ yeast/candida in Jun05.

Oh, bball meant basketball. Guys would know that. LoL

I've heard this too! And I knew what BBall was too...my dad LOVED sports but my brother HATED them, so I was his "sports" kid. :P

Donna....I'm sure you'll see Dr. Amy today. I dont know if you'll get to meet her but I'm sure you'll see her walking around.....both her and Scott. Its busy busy busy...they pretty much are with patients from early morning till closing. Tomorrow they will get a little less sleep cuz of my 8:30 appt.

Oh....about the scheduling of new patients...your health is just as important as anyones so if you want to see her then I say "go for it".

I did see her, in fact almost ran over her and Scott when I walked in, lol. That would not have been good...her arm was already in a brace. :P They were leaving for lunch when I came. I met a nice older man in the lobby...I have a lot in common with his wife. :P Anyway, he was their next appointment apparently.

I do think I will try to see her when she's here next time.

I like both of my Spices names. Hmmm....Tenacious Spice or Scientific Spice. Cant decide...I will let the Rachelvillians pick my Spice name.

Well, you could combine them and be Scientenacious Spice.

I agree, try to see Dr. Amy. I read a blip on one of the lyme aware pages (forget the exact name, info you guys have posted though) where it talked of how much better ART is for testing intolerances then ELISA. Hoping to be able to do that at some point.

Yeah, I'm pretty amazed at how accurate it is and I bet I'd learn even more with Dr. Amy and Dr. Scott in the same session. :P

I like saying "rhizoids". Maybe cuz it sounds like a space villian or maybe just the Z in the middle - like shazam or bizarre.

 You said rhizoids! :P

This sounds like heaven! There is that fabulous gluten-free Dude Ranch in Wyoming, my dream to visit - - three weeks out of the year they're totally gluten-free as they have a Celiac daughter. Of course, all you Lymies will never leave the confines of the Lodge due to Tick Terror......so then - - - let's go on a GLUTEN-FREE CRUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay!

I think I may still have that dude ranch bookmarked...not sure. :P

I often feel like an oxymoron.

But you can definitely NOT be Oxymoron Spice cuz that would get shortened to all sorts of things...I just can't go to that unhappy place.

Maybe I can rachel my Spice names???

Me thinks that is a given! :P

Hmmm.....I had to stop my supplements for both my sessions but of course they werent both done by Dr. Amy.

The email Scott sends out has a big (not as in long, but as in type size  ) paragraph about the supplements...that's the only reason I even thought about it. :P

Yeah Donna- glad your appointment went so well.

sleepy Spice (At this point I feel like snoring Spice) checking in.

For those of you on antibiotics (I'm on clarithromycin) do they ever just knock you out? I've been exhausted since i started them Wednesday. I know severe fatigue is a sign of an allergic reaction, but I think of SEVERE fatigue as being unable to get out of bed. I'm not THAT tired but i am pooped.

I did take the percocet yesterday but that has an opposit effect on me- it actually wakes me up  When i had my gallbaldder out last year, I couldn't take it to late in the afternnon because I couldn't sleep. Anyone?

Poor hubby- he's going to have a VERY sleepy date. We're going to make dinner, play nasty Scrabble (offensive words only :P ) and watch a movie. YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drugs generally work on me differently than they are supposed to...everyone says to take benedryl to help you sleep, um not me...keeps me wide awake. Vicodin does the same thing.

I took clarithromycin in December/January as part of the H.Pylori treatment. I was pretty worn out around that time, so don't know if it was the antibiotics (took it with Amoxycillin too) or because I was just worn out. I had just come back from vacation and really was dragging myself around all the time. Severely exhausted...but I was already exhausted when I started them...can't say if they made me worse cuz I just don't remember that far back. :P

Bev, I think the body uses a tremendous amount of energy detoxing all the toxins left behind from the dead bacteria. I usually am very fatigued.

NT Factor has helped a lot with that.

I've been feeling some exhaustion, likely attributable to the ABX, the past week... I've had more trouble getting out of bed in the morning and I'm starting to think I might need to sleep an extra 20 minutes or so... I've been a little hesitant to increase the amount of time I sleep because I generally feel worse the longer I sleep (or too little sleep) but I think I might bump it up a little bit for now..

I'm assuming you started ABX for the lyme, right? either way, it doesn't sound to me like it's an allergic rxn to the meds... sounds like a typical type reaction to simply taking ABX and it going through your system and doing its thing... if it gets to be too much for you or you grow more concerned, then I'd suggest checking with your dr although I know you already know this...

CarlaB Enthusiast

Charlie, part of the reason for no caffeine on the Lyme diet is so you know when you're tired. According to Dr. B, the two biggest reasons for Lymies not getting better are lack of sleep and drinking alcohol. I'd increase the sleep if you feel you need it, and if you feel like you need a nap, take one.

I agree that it's probably just a reaction to taking abx and not an allergic reaction.

I started playing ball again this year for the first time in 2 years and have been playing regularly for the first time in probably 4 years...

Oh sweet! I'm not ready for a game yet - was just shootin around a little.

Used to play in games 3-4x/wk b4 1st getting sick. Pretty often for a guy in late 30s. The whippersnappers seemed more energetic every year.

It's good to hear you can play again. Helps give me more hope. (But can ya "leap over a small forward for a single reBound"? Hehehhe)

CarlaB Enthusiast

Tom, I can give you some more hope. I shoot hoops with my kids. We'll have several of us out there with a couple balls. There's too much of an age gap, so we just shoot, don't play games. Plus I have an obnoxious 17 year old boy who would plow the rest of us over, including the 9 year old girl, just to win ... <_<

Last summer, I could shoot one or two times, now I can stay out there for a while. Last year I could only walk around the block ... on a good day. Now I go for LONG walks. I also lift weights at the gym and started adding 20 minutes of cardio on good days.

Once you come to the bottom of your health issues, you will be able to do this stuff again. I'm 44. I plan on getting back 100%.

My hubby or oldest daughter drag me to the gym on bad days. I need the encouragement. I think exercise is critical to recovery ... getting oxygen to your muscles is good no matter what the ailment.

I also think sunshine is critical.

Glad you enjoyed playing.

STrangely enough, I sort of enjoy football now.:huh: Enjoyed it in childhood, also, went to all kinds of games. Just didn't like it with R, the EX. Donna....YAY for being set free from your BioSET treatments!!! :D

I never really reached that stage...I never got to the point where I'm totally done and just need to get rechecked for everything. :(

I've probably had 3 or 4 times more treatments than you cuz of all those months going twice a week....and I guess I'm still a "work in progress". :(

I figure I could probably go to endless amounts of treatments but I think because of how toxic I am there will be many many reversals. I started out with a toxicity of 11...I still havent been rechecked to see where I'm at now but I imagine I'm still way higher than where Anna would want me to be....(which was at least a 7). :(

I think you were a 7 when you started?? It will be interesting to see where you're at now...I cant wait to hear how your last appt. with Anna goes. :)

Hopefully one day I'll be FREE too!! I'm not at the "maintenance" stage yet....but for sure I'll get there!! I'm determined to BEAT this. :D

Anna had said that I was one of her most complicated (not worst off...just more complicated ) ...but she also said that all of her patients get better....she's done alot to make sure I get there...including setting me up with Dr. Amy. :)

Congrats on making it through all the treatments!!! :D

Oh...if you're planning on trying to get in for an appt. for Dr. Amy's next visit...you should get on the list ASAP. The sceduling for new patients is first come first serve....so after all follow-up patients get scheduled...whatever slots may be left go to the new patients. Amy from DB will call the new patients in order....so if you're not at the top of the list you may not get in...which is what happened to me in Dec...I was dead last on the list.

Tom, I can give you some more hope.

Yep, and I can give you more too...I lift weights 5-6 days a week and can do at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week...a few months ago, I could hardly make it through a session. I do feel my energy and health returning, even if it is slowly and I know someday I'll be able to do everything again. Oh, I'll be 52 in a couple of weeks.

and let me tell you something, I look REALLY GOOD nekkid and on fire.

:o R is a fool. :P:lol:

Thanks! Yes, I was 7...pretty good in Anna's eyes, not so good for Dr. S. :( I am really anxious to hear what it is now. I'm pretty sure some things will have to be repeated, but I won't have to go every week any more. I'll call Amy Monday...should have done while I was there today, but I was so preoccupied with trying to figure out what supplements I should buy (that's why I'm broke now :P NOT because of the fuzzy slippers)...weren't no big deal when I was going every week. :P

Andrea...your hubby is too funny!

About the "getting sleep" thing. I really suck at this!! :(

My mom has been mad at me all week because of not sleeping enough. She was saying how I work really hard at doing all I can to get well...but the one thing I can do for myself...which is FREE...I am not doing...and thats getting more sleep.

I dont have fatigue as much as most of you so I'm not feeling the urge to rest my body as much as I know I need to. I know I cant get well if I'm always wearing myself out. Gotta put more emphasis on getting adequate rest. ;)

I miss playing softball alot!! I definately have the energy to play sports....I just dont have a team to play on right now. :(

Dave was talking about getting a team together but havent heard anything more on that. Last summer Dave and I went to the cages alot and I got alot of practice in but I NEED to get on a team again. Its been like 3 years since I've played. :(

The rockclimbing I did last summer was also totally FUN and something I wouldnt mind doing on a regular basis. I have alot of energy for stuff like that. :)

I probably miss jetskiing even more than softball but for me that has always involved food, drinks, camping...all kinds of stuff that I cant really do right now because of being allergic to everything.

I need something to do to burn off energy and maybe then I'll want to go to bed earlier. :)

Bev....OMG....naughty scrabble!!!

Too bad I never thought of that while I had someone to play with.

Me and my ex used to play board games alot....but I never thought of naughty scrabble...DARN....I missed out! :P

A repost:

Took a trip down memory lane....searched "spinached" in Rachelville. B)

Here is some of what I found...

What does "spinached" mean anyway??

Posted by Lisa Baker

As far as I am concerned or informed, it's the primary symptom of Celiac. But, I'm not as quick as others, but it has adapted well to my use. And use it every opportunity appropriate.

Posted by Rachel--24

Its meaning seems to have evolved into...well, just about anything you want!

Dunno what to make of it and actually I'm feeling rather "spinached" right now so gonna sign off for awhile. You figure it out. :P

Posted by Mango04

I hope everyone has a wonderful spinach-free evening (er- is "spinached" a good thing? I might have missed that). Keep relevating! B)

Posted by Rachel--24

Ummm...getting "spinached" would not be a good thing at all....just ask Celia's hubby.

Posted by JulieM

I still don't know the official definition of "spinach"

At this point it seems to be just about anything.

Posted by JenyAndreson

Maybe it's a replacement for cuss words. Kind of like the word "Smurf". As in..."My Mom was a real spinach at Thanksgiving last year."

Posted by DingoGirl

yes! or, it could mean you, um, soiled your bed, and I don't mean WET the bed....as in, "OMG I've spinached the bed again..."

Posted by Rinne

Okay, if relevations is the word for an OMG moment in Rachelville then I think saying, "I'm spinached" means I am rolling on the floor laughing my *** off.

Posted by DingoGirl

wellll, technically, we started out by saying something about laughing so hard we spinached our pants...I can't trace the actual etymoligical (sp?) origins of our new word....but our dingbat Cecile had it all over her bed, there may have been some mention (probably by yours truly ) of the fact that it was a good thing it was only SPINACH, and, um, not something else ("I spinached the bed")....I don't know....it's all hazy now as my brain seems to have turned to.....SPINACH.... and in that instance I mean MUSH....

Posted by TheDave

So pulling a "Dave" and "spinached" are similar? That's not good...

How to use "spinached" in a sentence....the correct usage:

Posted by DingoGirl

and please note that it can either be a noun - "you are such a little spinach" or a verb "I laughed so hard I spinached my pants"...

Posted by Mango04

Food is now the least of my worries. I am feeling a bit spinached over trying to find a job, but...oh well, I'm having fun. I still don't know exactly what spinached means, by the way, but I thought it'd be fun to try to use it in a sentence.

Posted by Robbin

Ok, he is the village idiot, geeeez, he doesn't even know what wordage is. I bet he never heard of being spinached, or even had a relevation, lol

Getting "spinached"....

Posted by DingoGirl

Ryan - was it you that posted something about Blue Diamond Nut Thins? Welllll.....finally tried them last night and am rubbish today (spinached) - - feel like lead and can hardly move

Posted by Picard

These do not sound like fun! I think I am going to be spinached and pulling a Dave all at once. The testing service just warned me I may be visiting the porcelain god after both tests.

Posted by DingoGirl

...but remember when it all happened, at that time I think our President was in a gluten coma, she may not have been working at that time and was permantly spinached to her bed....

Posted by Rachel--24

I was out of commission during that time. What else did I have to do with my time as I lay spinached out in my bed all day! There was nothing else on TV at that time....and yes, I was in a gluten coma....stuffing myself with Big Macs and Macaroni and cheese.

Posted by DingoGirl

where's Rachel? do you think she's spinached herself into oblivion from too much ice cream???????

Posted by Rachel--24

That is freakin hilarious!!! I cant believe Celia got "spinached" like that!!

Posted by Rinne

I cannot stop laughing about this. I am glad it helped given it made such a mess, not glutened, spinached.

Posted by Nikki-UK

Rachel-hope you're not laying in a spinached mess

Posted by Robbin

Who spinached themselves?

Posted by Penguin

As part of my last 21 days of gluten eating, I had a GIGANTIC greek meal, and nearly spinached myself because of it!

Posted by DingoGirl

OHHH GAAAAWDD and now I almost spinached myself..... or at least peed my pants...

Posted by JerseyAngel

How is my spinached, square-wheeled twin Celia this morning? I laugh whenever I read you clip-clopping along

Posted by DingoGirl

hope I don't spinach the bed tonight. ;)

Not getting "spinached".....

Posted by Rinne

I'm "lurking' along with all of you though not so talkative today, not a great day but at least I haven't been spinached.

Posted by MtnDog

Stay away from the ice cream, auxigro, NUGGETS, hershey's, bird poop, Bumble Bars, and ticks. But.... indulge in some romance. You can't get glutened, spinached, nuggeted or soyed by it! It's healthy.

Posted by Evie

Sorry you got broccolied, not spinached!!!

The second word in the Rachelville Dictionary....Spinach/Spinached/Spinaching

Posted by dlp252

 Spinached!

Posted by DingoGirl

like, holy moly, Rachel needs to grow her own vegetables, and, I hope Cecile feels okay today, and how was Lynne's wedding, etc. etc.....and how some of my friends are usign the word SPINACHED now...ha ha.....

Posted by JerseyAngel

Great idea, Mia! Now "Dave" will go on the list of "Rachelisms"--right after "spinached"

How it all started....

Posted by Floridian

To lighten today up a little.... I HAVE to tell you all this......this morning Tony woke up with wet goop all over and on him and freaked out, he thought my insides were coming out.... all I had last night was a package of spinach so I used this instead of my ice pack... and this was a frozen cardboard box and I fell asleep with it on my tummy and of course rolled around during my sleep... well the spinach thawed and oozed out of the corners...

HILARIOUS!!!

@Manaan2,  I'm so happy to hear you're going to try thiamine and magnesium!  Do let us know the results!   You may want to add a B 50 Complex with two meals of the day to help boost absorption.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins which are all water soluble.   When supplementing magnesium, make sure to get sufficient calcium.  Calcium and magnesium need to be kept in balance.  If you choose a calcium supplement, take two hours apart from magnesium as they compete for absorption.  Take Calcium with Vitamin D.  Vitamin D helps calm the immune system.   For pain, I use a combination of thiamine, B12 Cobalamine, and Pyridoxine B6.  These three vitamins together have analgesic effects.  My preferred brand is "GSG 12X Takeda ALINAMIN EX Plus Vitamin B1 B6 B12 Health Supplementary from Japan 120 Tablets".  Alinamin is another form of thiamine.  It really is excellent at relieving my back pain from crushed vertebrae without side effects and no grogginess.   Look into the low histamine version of the Autoimmune Protocol Duet (Dr. Sarah Ballentyne, a Celiac herself, developed it.)  It really helps heal the intestines, too.  It's like a vacation for the digestive system.  Add foods back gradually over several weeks after feeling better.   I'm so happy to have pointed the way on your journey!  Let us know how the journey progresses!

@knitty kitty I can't thank you enough!  My husband and I already started looking into those supplements.  We definitely plan to give it a try.  We've been against the Miralax since it was originally advised by PCP, but because of the level of pain she experienced on a daily basis, we decided to try it.  We've made many attempts to gradually decrease but due to her pain and related symptoms, we've kept her on it while trying all sorts of other dietary adjustments pre and post diagnosis specific to food; so far none of those efforts have made a significant difference.  I will definitely share how she's doing along the way!

Hi, I have recently embarked on the gluten-free journey. I have what to me seems like a somewhat confusing set of test results and symptoms. I have been impressed by the accumulated knowledge and thoughtfulness as I browse this forum, so I figured I'd make a post to see if anyone can offer any insight. I know there are many posts like this from new users, so I have tried to do my baseline research first and not ask super obvious questions.  I'm 43, overall very healthy. No history of gluten sensitivity or really any of the classic GI symptoms. About three years ago I started to experience intermittent bouts of fatigue, chills/cold intolerance, and shortness of breath/air hunger (sometimes feels like a hollowness in my chest, hard to describe). The symptoms over time have become fairly significant, though not debilitating, I am able to exercise regularly and am fairly physically active, continue to perform well at work. But for example I have gone from someone who consistently ran hot, was always cranking the a/c, to someone who wears a down vest inside at work in winter and get chills if the a/c even blows on me in summer. I get tired and lose energy even when getting decent amounts of sleep, and have to have my wife take over on long drives that I could previously handle with no problems. More generally when I am experiencing these symptoms they seem to crowd out space in my mind for focusing on my family, my hobbies/activities etc, I sort of withdraw into myself.   I happened to be experiencing these symptoms during an annual physical with my PCP a few years ago, he observed post nasal drip and suggested it was allergies and that I treat it with claritin. At first it seemed to respond to claritin (though not zyrtex), but over time I became unsatisfied with that answer. There didn't seem to be any seasonal rhyme or reason to my symptoms, and I felt like I was on an endless loop of taking claritin, then stopping, not being sure if it was even making a difference. I did eventually get allergy tests and found modest allergies to dust and pollen, which didn't feel like a smoking gun.  I then started seeing a natural medicine doctor who was much more willing to explore my symptoms via testing. The first thing that came back abnormal was elevated thyroid peroxidase antibodies/TPOs, 137 IU/mL vs a reference range of <9. At the same time my thyroid panel showed normal thyroid hormone levels. So it appears my immune system is attacking my thyroid even though it is working fine. I got a thyroid ultrasound at the time, it was clear, but with some abnormalities such that they suggested I get is scanned again in a year. These are certainly risk factors for a thyroid autoimmune disease, though my thyroid seems to be working fine for now.  From here my doctor considered celiac due to the murky thyroid/celiac links, so we did a panel. Results were as follows: TT IGA <1 U/ml, TT IGG <1 U/ml, deamidated gliadin IGA 24.6 U/ml, deamidated gliadin IGG <1 U/ml, IGAs 170 mg/dL. Readings greater than 15 considered high by my lab for the first four, my IGAs are within reference range. So basically just the deamidated IGA popped, but my IGAs are normal. I also notice on the tests that my thyroglobulin was high, 86.7 ng/ml vs a range of 2.8 - 40.9.  My doctor suggested that it certainly wasn't conclusive for celiac, but it was possible, and likely that I have some sort of gluten sensitivity. She suggested going gluten free and seeing how I felt as opposed to doing a biopsy. The best theory I can come up with is perhaps I am a silent celiac or just have a gluten sensitivity that doesn't produce immediate GI symptoms, but is still doing damage and over time has caused leaky gut. So now gluten is getting into my blood, and my immune system is attacking it but also mistakingly attacking my thyroid.  So that's what I did, went gluten free in October. It's been about four months, and I am really not feeling any difference. I still get the same symptoms that come and go. My bowel movements may be a bit more regular, but it was never a major issue before so I would consider that a minor improvement. I know that it can take a while to see improvements, and I am going to remain gluten-free and see how I feel. But I am definitely questioning whether I really understand what is going on, and am open to any thoughts or suggestions from the forum. Sometimes I wish I just went ahead with the biopsy before going gluten-free. While I would certainly be down to start drinking IPAs again ahead of a biopsy, you know, for science, I feel like at this point I would be throwing away four months of work and am better off staying the course and seeing what happens. But I'm really not sure.  I know there is a lot of thyroid knowledge on these boards, along with the celiac expertise, so I'm curious if this resonates with anyone's experience. And I'm interested in what sort of timelines people have experienced in terms of feeling improvements for some of these non-GI symptoms like chills, SOB, brain fog etc. Thanks in advance.

Does it taste like black licorice?  It said it was chewable.  I do not like that flavor.     Since the burn at the back of my throat is there everyday, I usually only take something when it is unbearable and keeping me from ADL especially sleep.

Your concerns about Nando's cross-contamination practices are valid and important for the celiac community. It's disappointing that Nando's does not have stricter protocols for children's portions, especially given the risk of cross-contact with gluten-containing items like garlic bread. Cooking gluten-free items on shared surfaces, even if cleaned, is not safe for individuals with celiac disease, as even trace amounts of gluten can cause harm. While the adult butterfly chicken may be a safer option, the inconsistency in practices for children's meals is concerning. It's frustrating that Nando's headquarters did not take responsibility, but sharing your experience raises awareness and may encourage them to improve their protocols. Consider reaching out to celiac advocacy organizations to amplify your concerns and push for better standards. Always double-check with staff and emphasize the importance of avoiding cross-contamination when dining out.
