Waiting For Results...

Recommended Posts

Hi,, I am new here.

I think I have celiac's disease. They did some bloodwork today and a stool sample. I've been reading some posts about not going on the diet before you're tested so the results are accurate.... I ate (what could be my last) donut two days ago. I felt horrible after I ate it. But that was two days ago. Yesterday I didn't eat any gluten because the symptoms are pretty bad if I do. I am hoping my results are accurate.

I am scared to think I won't be able to eat some foods I really love. I'll probably find out results by the end of the week.

This site is really helpful, I am glad I came across it.

If I do have this,,, I'm sure I'll have A LOT of questions.

It gets way easier when you learn all the ropes to it. The diet is really not as restricted as you may think at first. In order for blood tests to be accurate then you HAVE to be on gluten for at least 3 months prior to testing eating significant amounts of gluten. So even if your tests come back negative you still may have celiac. This is a great site to come to for support and to learn of the foods you can eat. There are bad brands of food and good brands so its a matter of finding the right things. For everything that has gluten there is a substitute that is gluten free. Hang in there and contact me if you need anything.

Thanks so much for your response! I called for my results and the nurse said my stool sample was fine, but the bloodwork for celiac's disease is still pending. She told me to call back on Monday. Now I have to wait all weekend. oh boy!

My bloodwork for celiac's disease came back POSITIVE. She said the levels were high. So my doctor referred me to a GI specialist. Do they have to do other tests? If so, what tests? She told me to do the gluten free diet, which I already have been for 6 days now. I hope what ever other tests they need to do come back correct with me already on the diet. If it needs to be in your system for 3 months then hopefully the future tests results will be accurate. I don't want any symptoms ever again!

I am feeling better already on the diet. :)

It is your choice if you want to have other tests. Positive blood work means you have celiac. If you want to have a biopsy, you can, but it isn't necessary to confirm. It is really what kind of proof you personally need. If you are already feeling better from the diet, that may be all you want to go through.

Glad you are feeling better. It can be tough in the beginning. I used to gluten myself several times a week then once a week then once a month. I had days when I felt great and was happy and days when I felt sick and sorry for myself. There is a big learning curve and an adjustment period, but it will get easier. At least we can recover and feel good and we don't have to take medicine.

Hope you keep feeling better and find new foods that you love to eat!
