Cleansing My 3 Year Old's Body Of Gluten

How long does it/can it truly take to rid your body of gluten? When you ingest gluten accidentally, how long does it stay in your system? Although the GI symptoms may no longer be present, what's going on internally that could manifest itself through behaviors? What kinds of symptoms have your kids complained about once they were old enough to articulate them? My little guy has a wicked reaction to gluten--no doubt about it. Unfortunately, he's too little to tell us exactly how he feels. He's not old enough to say, "I have pain in the lower, left side of my stomach." ! :) Do your kids have the "allergy roadmap", too? ie., eczema, seasonal allergies, food allergies, sensitive skin, etc.

Thanks!! Kristy :)

Hi, the reaction comes when the gluten enters the intestines. So I do not know how long it takes to get there. My son's symtoms were always constipation related. So he complained of terrible stomach pain and butt pain. If he ingested gluten he would be constipated for the next few days. I know that some other parents have said their children whose syptoms were diarhea, were sick right after eating the gluten and it can also last several days.

My son used to have horrible allergies and asthma until going gluten free. He no longer even needs claritin and he used to have nebulizer treatments. Not even a sniffle or sneeze this spring. I was amazed! My daughter was just diagnosed with eczema last week.

He will get sick (D) pretty quick after getting glutened and it lasts a day or so. His mood is usually bad for a couple to 3 days. We've just been gluten-free since Jan., so I'm still learning. He's mostly been glutened at my in-laws, so I don't know if they're just spoiling him or if it's the gluten completely that makes him behave so bad. It's probably a combination. Last time he didn't get glutened, but still behaved pretty bad for a couple days. I think they just let him by with murder!
