I Think My Wife Was Glutened

My wife ate a little bag of nuts and raisins, thoroughly enjoyed them, but just didn't feel right for a week or so after. At work her co-worker was eating the same thing and she ran back to the break room to get a bag, anyway, her co-worker tells her about the ingredients "made in the same factory as wheat items" or something like that. Anyway, my wife didn't eat the second bag.

It seems like when she is glutened she totally looses her memory, she can't remember anything. I know I tell her things about where I am at or what I am going to do and she politely tells me "I don't think you mentioned that." And, I know I did.

The other problem she seems to have is when she gets glutened or casein (which happened by mistake last Friday at the steak house) she says it feels like she has to go bm all the time. She rarely gets diarrhea now, but she says she can't get to far from a bathroom just in case. She works a customer service job, and that gets a little frustrating for her. When she eats naturally gluten free and casein free foods, she feels great. It's hard to understand how a little bit can send your whole system into a tailspin of sorts.

Do they sound like glutened symptoms

They sound exactly like gluten symptoms to me, too. I can totally relate to the feeling of having to be near a bathroom--just in case. It's not exactaly urgent D, but there is that constant underlying feeling of having to "go". Hard to explain! When this happens to me, it goes on for about a week.

Yep, sounds like it. I have heard here that with items that are processed in the same facility as wheat, it's trial and error. After all, your own kitchen is probably "a facility that also processes wheat". It all depends on how vigilant the company is at completely cleaning the manufacturing lines, how far away the nearest wheat containing items are (right next to it, or on the other side of the factory). So just take note of the brand name and avoid it.

When I get glutened, I get the feeling like I have to get a BM all the time, and being so scared I'm going to have diarrhea at any minute too, because that's how my pre-gluten-free life was like too. I don't know exactly what's going on, but my personal theory is that the large intestine and colon get inflammed (along with the small intestine) and swollen, and it just feels like there's something in there, when there really isn't. It makes me not want to be more than 10 feet from a bathroom too.

The memory loss sounds like glutened symptoms too.

I hope she's feeling better soon.

Oh yea, sounds like she got glutened. It is amazing how even a microgram can cause such misery in some of us. I hope she feels better soon.
