Has Anyone Ever Felt "kicked In The Gut?"

I'm just learning about Celiac disease after year of painful digestive issues (although no serious diseases). Occassionally (about two-three times per week) I get an intense pain in my upper abdomin, like someone kicked me over and over--almost a bruised feeling. This happens almost immed. after I eat. I eliminated wheat from my diet about 1.5 years ago, and felt immediately better. However, I didn't understand this whole gluten thing, and have been eating food and products that contain it. Does this sound at all like Celiac. BTW, I stopped getting "D" after I eliminated wheat, but before it was a chronic problem.

I am gluten intolerant and have had similar sensations. I often got a poking pain, too. It would be relieved by belching like a sailor. :blink: In fact, I think I could shame one. I also had gallbladder trouble and had it removed a few years back. Sometimes it took me a half hour to an hour before I would get pain. It depended on what it was. Pasta always seemed to bother me almost right after. I know what you are talking about.

I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one. Thank you so much for your reply. I've also feared that I'm having gallbladder problems (since gallbladder disease is prevelant in my family). After having yours removed, did the bruising sensation go away, or do you find that the sensation is related directly to wheat/gluten consumption?

I get that feeling when I have gluten. I feel exactly like I just took a punch right in that little triangle below the sternum.

I totally know what you're talking about. I used to get that too. Terrible shooting stabbing pains which I thought may have been gas or heartburn, near my left breast. My boyfriend would have to burp me like I was a baby some nights just so I could get some sleep. I would also get a terrible empty bruised pain right below my ribs above my stomach. It would usually take about 30-60 minutes after eating to occur. Nothing would make it go away. Wow. I can't believe other people had that annoying sensation too. My symptoms have always been irregular- painful constipation, severe d, embarassing gas, brain fog, and crazy moodiness. I've only been gluten free for almost 1 month (a few days to go) and my symptoms have eased a little but my anxiety is through the roof. I am so happy to hear I'm not the only one. I thought I was nuts.

      Mine is definitely triggered by inflammation and stress! I do also have arthritis in my spine, but the pain is more in my pelvic area. Im sure i have other food intolerances or other autoimmune isues but the more I focus on it and see doctor after doctor, it just gets worse.  Best thing is get of Gluten! (I also avoid lactose). Try to limit stress and anything that causes inflammation in your body.

      Good morning,   I got an email about replies to this post. Some of my doctors had blamed a slipped disc for the pain I had and that contributes, but after meeting with a gastroenterologist AGAIN and trying some lifestyle modifications, I found out I have IBS and can't tolerate corn or excessive fructose to any degree. Cutting out corn AFTER having cut out all gluten containing products was a real pain but I feel much better now!

      So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

      Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.
