JOO-DEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

You came back to us!!!!! :D

Are you in your new house yet???

Housewarming!!!!!

Had my meeting at school this morning. I am happy to say that nobody is pushing ADHD anymore . . . I really thought this was the route the school was going to take even though the screenings did not indicated it was an issue. They have started the process for getting Smackl an IEP for a "specific learning disability in the form of written expression". A lot of the current accomodations will remain the same, but he will now get extra time during testing. A lot of what they are doing now is for the most part voluntary by this school. I have no doubt that come next year, it wouldn't be any problem getting the same accomodations from the 5th grade teacher. However, come middle school, all bets are off and the IEP will legally require them to accomadate his disability. In the mean time, we all work on getting him up to speed on typing. (Can't remember if I mentioned that . . . he's slow at typing, quantity of work is better but still low ('cause he's so slow?), but his quality of work is significantly higher.)

EggZactly the same scenario for DC except....NOBODY was interesting in assessing him 'til I pulled him out of school (oh some 4 years ago  )

After 10 mins with an Educational Psychologist she determined that his reading/comprehension age was above average... WAY above his written ability (below av) - two opposite ends of the scale.

Unfortunately for DC, the IEP never really got implemented as they can't get past the 'behavioural problems'

<_< (he's 14 now, getting virtually NO education & the behavioural issues have gone through the roof <_< ....but that's another tale....)

Hopefully, though for Smackl, thinga are on the up. T'is quite frustrating for them to try and learn in a conventional fashion I think - so hopefully, tailoring to his needs will be a great help!!

Fingers crossed Jhan-knit

Yeah- Jianknut figured out what's bugging Skeeter and feels better :D That's good. And Smackl shall get his IEP. This makes me happy!

And Joodee popped in :D

Sadly, once you hit about 40, the opportunity to do stuff you aren't supposed to drops precipitously. It all becomes either too dangerous, too expensive, or too much trouble.

I REFUSE to believe this (even though it's probably true!)

Theresa- I'm sorry to hear about your dad. He sounds like an amazing man! I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Sending

An exhausted nurse, fresh off an 18-hour shift, staggers into a bank one morning to cash her paycheque. Standing in front of the teller, she reaches into her bag for a pen and, in her fatigued state, instead brings out her rectal thermometRE. She tries to write, looks at the startled teller's face and then what is in her hand, shakes her head and says, "Oh, gawd....... . ..some a$$hole's got my PEN!!"

Uncle Ray shall receive this toot sweet!

Hi Em :)

celiac-mommy Collaborator

I have finally finished the Potter books. I feel like I've lost my best friend, quite disappointed I'm done. I guess I can go back to paying attention to my friends and family :P Nuphin else new here, hubby's in Orlando for the week at a conference, so I can go to bed when I want, have 1/2 the laundry to do, can make what I want for dinner, the list goes on ;) Ah, I jest, he's a great guy, just nice to have a few evenings to meselph a few days a year!

Headache update . . . Headaches are MUCH better. Perhaps twas rebound headaches after all . . . or the antibiotic is finally working. I don't suppose there is any way to tell. My neck has been sore/stiff though . . . mostly on the same side that I had the more significant eyeball pain (which is also MUCH better, especially today). Is there some lymph nodes back there or sumptin? Doesn't "feel" swollen or different. Always something.

Sounds like tension in yer neck. Since you've been having headaches, your neck and shoulders are probably tense and a tight ball of muscles. I prescribe a massage, right away, to keep you from getting more headaches from your neck hurtin!! ;)

Today my heart is very sad, scared, lonely for my family. My Dad suddenly developed severe back pain, then could not move/feel his legs. The local hospital sent him to another hospital hours away (from upstate NY to Burlington Vermont). They discovered a blood clot in his spine that was compressing the nerves. Apparently it's been there long enough to cause some permanent damage. Time will tell how much...but he may never walk again. I have to tell you that this 84 year old still bales hay, cuts his own firewood...is so active and stronger than most men of any age that I know. They operated, removed the clot and some of a vertebra. He got through the surgery fine...but it's a long road ahead.

I knew I could tell you all about it and that you'd understand. Any of you who pray...please include my Dad, and the family. Thanks for being here and being such a wonderful group. I promise to keep more in touch.

How's he doing? S'been a few days...

Someone posted a recipe for something like that a while ago. I printed it at work....prints in a different room.... but the printer didn't work. By the time I realized it, I couldn't find the recipe again

This is what I do-heat up a pan nice and hot, drop a small handful of shredded cheese into it, when the edges start to turn brown, flip over, cook till it's golden brown, dry on a paper towel-super yummy!!

Good for you for being SO persistant! I'm wondering already if we will have the same problem with our kids. I've got one who is way above her grade level and I have to press for more work for her to do and will fight, if I have to, to get her into the IB program once she starts middle school. DS, on the other hand, is not so academic, has no attention span, etc....He will start school in September, so I will give him a year or 2 to see where he's at, but I'm already concerned. The Montessori is a great idea-I've been thinking about it as well.

My day yesterday went full speed from 4am to 8:30 pm. I'm a little tired today.....

The woman who translated 'kick ass' (ASL) was just a temp and hasn't been back. I asked the two regular guys who do it but they didn't know. They said they would just make some motion to transmit the feeling that was being conveyed, like a "YES!" fist in the air if the phrase was conveying something good.

Still much work to do today. Just saying hi and bye for now

Just a quick poop in, can't add any silliness, nuff cyber silliness going on. Hard to be psilly when consumed with rage after two days in cyberspace, no phone, burning the cellphone minutes talking to ISP provider, telco, CISCO (customer support in Phillipines and west coast USA), equipment seller, alarm company (yep, it set off the alarm at 5:00 a.m. :o ) (and it wasn't even turned on!!). Wotinell is going on? No one knows, our router does not exist according to CISCO, our ISP says our password we have had for 8 years is WRONG!!, CISCO says sorry, can't help you, ISP says we need CISCO's help to get back online, and yet here I is. Somebody must have figured out somfink but will never let on.

Oh well...

Bevvie sweetie, you are in my thoughts. Such a difficult situation--we've dealt with both in our family. I completely understand the sentiment "sick of it" and wanting to yell ENOUGH.

Janet, Wishing the best for your friend's child. Bless him.

That's what came immediately to my mind as well, Bell's palsy. And don't assume every medical problem is connected to her celiac disease as there is still something known as coincidence. Get this checked out by medical professionals and push for some serious testing. Don't let them brush you off. Be appropriately assertive.

Hi @CeliacMom502, As always, consult a medical professional on any advice you receive.  I experience have experienced this exact symptoms you're referring to and will receive them, typically after being accidentally glutened. I've recently been researching this (that's how I came across this posting), because I've been trying to nail down how long I've actually had the celiac genes "activated" or if I was just born with it. Now I wasn't diagnosed until 2023 with Celiac Disease, but not all these other health issues I've had previously point to it all connecting. In 2013 I ended up with Bell's Palsy that I had facial paralysis on one side of my face, where I couldn't even get a twitch for six months, but it took almost a year for "full recovery". I have now came to the conclusion that, because of the B12 vitamin deficiency caused by celiac disease (when not following a strict gluten free diet), caused me to have prolonged recovery from this, because the nerves were healing at a much lower rate> I'm not sure if your daughter has ever had Bell's Palsy, but ever since I have, some of my symptoms when I accidentally get glutened (including right now as I type this message 😄) include a migraine that goes across my eyes, and a shooting pain as you have described that will go across my left cheek and upper jaw, in addition to pain behind my left ear, and painful to the touch. Now, I did immediately go on a gluten free diet, and almost all these symptoms vanished after 3-4 months, but that time frame depends upon the "damage" already done previously.  Hope my situation helps even now this is now almost three years later from your message!

Your situation involves interpreting elevated Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgG levels, which can indeed be confusing without clear symptoms or additional diagnostic tools like a biopsy. Here’s a possible approach to help clarify your next steps: Understanding DGP IgG: DGP IgG is a blood test often used to help diagnose celiac disease, particularly in individuals with IgA deficiency. However, since you’ve confirmed you don’t have IgA deficiency, the focus should shift to other celiac-specific tests, such as tissue transglutaminase IgA (tTG-IgA) and endomysial antibodies (EMA-IgA), which are more specific for celiac disease. Elevated DGP IgG alone is not diagnostic of celiac disease but may indicate gluten-related immune activity. Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS): You’re correct that NCGS does not typically show abnormalities in blood tests like celiac disease does. NCGS is diagnosed based on symptoms (e.g., bloating, fatigue, brain fog) that improve on a gluten-free diet, after celiac disease and wheat allergy have been ruled out. Since you don’t currently have symptoms, NCGS seems less likely in your case. Possible Next Steps: Monitor Symptoms: If you remain asymptomatic, it’s reasonable to continue eating gluten and retest after some time. This is because celiac disease can develop or become symptomatic later, and ongoing gluten consumption is necessary for accurate testing. Repeat Testing: Consider repeating the tTG-IgA test, as it is the most sensitive and specific for celiac disease. If this is also elevated, it strengthens the case for further investigation. Genetic Testing: If available, HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 genetic testing can help rule out celiac disease if negative, as nearly all celiac patients carry one or both of these genes. However, a positive result doesn’t confirm celiac disease, as these genes are common in the general population. Dietary Trial: If testing remains inconclusive and you develop symptoms, a supervised gluten-free diet trial might provide clarity. However, this should only be done after thorough testing, as going gluten-free prematurely can interfere with accurate diagnosis. Biopsy Limitation: Since a biopsy is not available in your town, you’ll need to rely on blood tests and clinical judgment. If your tests remain inconclusive but you develop symptoms, you may need to travel to a facility that can perform a biopsy for definitive diagnosis. In summary, if I were in your position, I would continue consuming gluten, monitor for symptoms, and retest with more specific celiac markers (tTG-IgA and EMA-IgA) in a few months. If symptoms develop or tests remain ambiguous, consulting a gastroenterologist for further guidance would be advisable. Always work with a healthcare provider to interpret results and tailor next steps to your specific situation.
    • trents
The fact is, we know very little about the mechanism of NCGS at this point. We know much more about celiac disease. Some experts believe that NCGS can transition into celiac disease. And I do not agree with what you read about NCGS not producing any elevated antibody tests. IMO, and I have no scientific data to support this, it's just a hunch base on reading many, many forum contributor test result reports, elevated igg antibodies may signal a transition from NCGS to celiac disease.  But there are other things besides gluten that can cause elevated dgp igg and ttg igg antibody levels. So, yes. I would continue to monitor the situation if I were you and get regular testing. Not necessarily every 6 months but yearly anyway if you can. In the meantime, if you know gluten causes you unwellness, continue to avoid it.
