Chicago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some may not know that's me 'ometown. Been gone a long long time tho.

I've read of VERY high acclaim for some gluten-free restaurants. Couple threads here, right?

Em musta read those.

Wish I could go too. Lakeshore Dr, Grant Park, Art Institute etc, Mich Ave, Wrigley . ..

I remember!!!! I think we talked about living there AND Tucson about the same times. Where's a good place to go that's cheap (read:free)and won't take a whole afternoon. Not sure I'll be up for a major excursion.

Just got back from our July 4 fireworks on the 5th. I smell like smoke, my van is covered in ash, ears are ringing & blinded by the bright fireworks. It was a great show! Boys shot of their fireworks, too. Fingers and other body parts intact.

Hope all today's travelers stay safe.

I'm gonna try to do two, maybe three more bags of mortar today. Stirring it is like stirring sticky rice - in 25 pound batches. Think I'm gonna weigh out 10 pound increments and just stop more often to mix more.

While the whole process is 'easy', I did not appreciate the sheer physical labor involved. I will literally have shifted nearly 1000 pounds by the time this is done, and that doesn't include getting said 1000 pounds into my house in the first place. I still have homework to do so I won't be working til the wee hours to finish (even if I could).

Jess, I think it's very wise to keep the batches to a reasonable amount. I think it's so cool that you are doing the tile yourself--I know it's going to turn out phab :D

Pserously, pics when it's all done and you've had a chance to rest up ;)

We're on a Starbuck's break somewhere near Tuscaloosa Alabama. Wanted to wish Em and Leesuigh a great mini summit--I know you'll have a great time since I've had the honoUr of meeting the both of youse

Leesuigh--take care of yer arm, sweetie. Hope yer not too awful sore.

Talk to ya'll later :D

Tis hot here. Things should be colling off a bit now that it is evening. Gonna fire up the barbcue on the deck to make food in a while.

When you guys are all in Chicago, you could go looking for my roots. About sixty years ago, two graduate students were both living at International House at the University of Chicago. Both were from out-of-state. They married in 1952 and have three sons. ;)

<yawn> Just about to hit the sack in Roanoke, VA. This was the long day--tomorrow's drive should be much shorter.

Hope Jess is getting some well-deserved rest right about now.....

Seems like it's hot just about everywhere! Matt called and said the thermometer at his work read 105 this afternoon. It's been well into the 90's all through the trip so far. Phunny thing--I swear the sun is hotter in Texas because it was 97 at one point when we stopped to get gas, and it didn't seem all that bad. I really think I've built up a tolerance to it....

The Chicago Summit!!!!! Warms the cockles of me'eart when sillies get together :D

If you worked your muscles really hard, and they are sore, they are holding water (swollen, just like anything else that hurts). When they heal (2-3 days) they'll shrink down. Spend another week working really hard and then weigh in.

Roda!

When Patti mentioned checking in at the coffee house I had a vision of her and Mark, sitting down to coffee just like any couple that's been married forever, and Patti opening the laptop as if she were getting ready to read a batch of postcards from distant friends. She browses through the pages, occasionally mentioning something to Mark that she thinks might be interesting "hmmm, Jess is tiling her floor today. And Nikki didn't punch anyone.", and Mark grunting in feigned response the way men do when they're trying to their part in the conversation, but they really want to just read the paper.

We have: Tightwad, Peculiar & Nevada ( pronounced Na vay duh)

Tightwad does a big bank business as people want checks that say " Bank of Tightwad".

My mother is from Minnesota, but Dad is Canadian. I have dual citizenship as a result.

*raising eyebrows*

Interesting wee facts.

I find our roots and geneology very interesting.....just never had the time to really delve into mine :)

...watching the semi- final of the world cup.

I think I shall miss the 'vuvuzela' when they're gone
