Getting Glutened

Over the summer my son was doing very well. He was symptom free. By the end of August I had read so many things about McDonald's fries being tested after cooking and no gluten being detectable so I let him eat them :angry: . Probably about 4 times in a month or so. By the end of September his symptoms were back. He is back to his pattern of constipation which is typical for him with gluten. I have removed the fries from his diet about 3 weeks ago and only see a little improvement. Our town went back to school late this year so the syptoms also corrolate (sp?) with going back to school. In anyone elses experience, is it possible that what I am seeing is still from the fries or do you think I am missing another source of gluten? The teacher and he both say that he does not touch anyone elses food and he eats his right out of the lunch box so it never touches the table. They haven't taken out the play dough yet so the only possibility I see is maybe getting crumbs on his hands and then in his mouth. I'm not sure, any advice?

Everyone's reactions are different, and last for different amounts of time. I've heard as long as three weeks here. My reactions are pretty immediate and the worst is the first 8 hours, but I have lingering symptoms like being tired and unmotivated for a few days afterward. If I get glutened consistently for days on end, it will take me a week or so to feel back to myself.

I would look for other sources of gluten. Playdough is a big one. Also cross contamination. Make sure they're consistent about him washing his hands before he eats.

      So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

      Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

      Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

      If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
