Hi Cassidy - I am dedicated to being gluten free. And I know of all the possible consequences if I do quit the diet. But is the diet doing any good if I can't seem to find all the sources of cross contamination? Is being rid of 99% of the gluten helping me as far as the possible consequences. My doctor had said NO. That all gluten must be gone in order for my intestines to heal. And I'm frustrated that I can't seem to find what is still making me sick. I don't want to spend my entire life being obsessed about this if I am never going to get better or be able to find all the sources of contamination. I'm just frustrated Cassidy.

Glad you really are committed. Sometimes it is hard to tell what is really going on from one post. It is frustrating. I woke up in the middle of the night the other night because I was hungry. I actually started crying because the only thing that I want to eat is Papa John's pizza and I know I can't. I'm pregnant so I'm blaming all of that on the pregnancy, but it is tough for eveyone some days.

I saw you wrote that it isn't will power but the desire not to get sick that keeps us on the diet. That is true for me. I see gluten like rat poison. I get upset when I see crumbs of it and I don't like it near my safe food. Nothing that could be dangerous seems good to me (I would never eat the pizza even if it was in front of me) and I don't want to take chances because it isn't worth it.

It took me 2 weeks before I could tell if I was glutened so even if you get on the right track by eliminating other foods and changing your kitchen if necessary, it still might take a little while before you feel good. Are there any alternative doctors in your area? This is very tough and maybe you can have some tests done to see what is going on. I wasn't feeling great after going gluten-free and it turned out I had an amoeba, bad bacteria, candida overgrowth and not much good bacteria. Once I got that under control I was much better. I couldn't have figured that out on my own.

HI Everyone! Well as of this morning I have eliminated dairy - wish me luck! Changed to tea instead of coffee as coffee without creamer is blah!

Happy Girl - I did get my bloodwork redone after 4-5 months of being gluten-free and the levels had barely moved. I have the requisition form to get it done again now at 9 months however I am scared to go because last time the results only frustrated me more. No I have not had another biopsy but I am seeing the specialist in Jan. which will be more less a year gluten-free.

I hope that those of you suggesting other food intolerances are correct. If it is cc I don't know how to get rid of it other than FORCE my family to go gluten-free as well. There is the emotional part to that too - if they really loved me wouldn't they try it for me?

      Celiac Emotional Healing Support Group
      Again you are invited to join Johnny Patout, LCSW for Baton Rouge's first emotional healing support group meeting to assist those living with celiac disease manage the emotional challenges so many of us face. Most often the emotional disturbances include depression, disinterest in normal activities, insomnia, grief, mood changes, anxiety, inability to concentrate, extreme concern about managing a gluten-free lifestyle and other emotional and behavioral challenges.
      The professionals at Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center created the emotional healing support group to give us a safe place to begin to process our emotions and support each other as we heal emotionally while managing celiac disease and the resulting autoimmune disorders.
      The emotional healing support group meets every Thursday, 6:00-7:00pm, at the Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center of Baton Rouge. Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center is located at 4637 Jamestown Avenue, Baton Rouge, Suite B-1. Suite B-1 is upstairs.
