Does Anybody Have Itchy, Bumpy Eyes Due To Celiac?

Recommended Posts

My opthamologist said that some people with ulcerative colitis have really bad eye problems - itchy, red, dry, and feeling like there is a grain of sand under your eyelid.

Have you ever heard of this happening with celiac disease?

Not sure about celiacs but I know people who have Rosacea suffer from this......Since going gluten-free Rosacea has cleared up alot but the eye problems still there.

Yes, I had terribly itchy, grainy eyes before going gluten-free. They still bother some, but not nearly as much.

YES!!!! I had itchy grainy eyes before my Celiac diagnosis along with large bumpy areas that got inflamed. That all went away now that I am gluten free. My opthamalogist tells me I have Terigia that is eased when I use sunglasses. So now I wear sunglasses with polarized lenses during sunny days religiously. I have no problems at all. Hope this helps.

I had itchy eyes until I switched my mascara. My old mascara had wheat germ oil in it. Ugh...

hi!

this is really interesting. I often have the feeling that something is in my, a sandcorn, dust, but there is nothing. I am not glutenfree, I am suspecting to be glutenintolerant, waiting for tests etc.

I would never relate it to this, but now when I think about it...it began approx. about the time my yearlong stomach/bowel problems became more severe...

best, Sonja

I have just experienced the itchy, irritated eyes (i didn't wear eye-makeup today cuz i thought maybe i was coming down with pink eye or something...but it wasn't). Last night I thought something sharp like mascara or an eyelash had got caught under my eyelid, but i couldn't see anything.

To hear you mention a grain of sand...that's exactly what it felt like!

I found out I have Celiac back in Feb. Seems like every week I find some weird symptom that I wouldn't think had to do with Celiac, but now I look up everything online, and sure enough it seems to have something to do with Celiac.

I try my best to eat gluten free, but it seems like it keeps slipping in without me knowing. And it must have, or else my eyes wouldn't be bugging me. I won't be wearing makeup tomorrow (which is very annoying to me!)

Everyday my heart breaks when I find yet another weird ingredient that contains gluten.

My symptoms are so all over the spectrum that I'm still experiencing new ones. For instance: itchy elbows and knees (with red bumps), itchy hands and feet (with no bumps...thought at first it was athletes foot), extreme fatigue, headaches, dizziness, overall weakness, my knees hurt when I walk too much (mostly my left), tingling in my toes, sores on my tongue, brain fog (this was the most bizarre to me...I had to literally stop studying and was afraid to drive to my midterm), bloating in my abdomen (looked like a tiny pregnant pouch), abdominal cramps, and occasional nausia, and now I can add itchy, irritated eyes to my list. Yay.

Does anyone else experience these range of symptoms? Or am I just a big wimp?
