Gluten-free Vegetarian "meats"

I've been a vegetarian for 11 years and gluten-free for a few weeks. I used to eat fake bacon, "chik" patties, and fake sausgaes all the time. I've search my local health food store and only see my usual brands which have wheat in them. I'd be willing to order meat substitues off the internet if I could just find a brand that doesn't contain gluten. Anyone have expereince with this? Are there gluten-free fake meats? Thanks for your help.

I think Tofu Pups "hot dogs" are gluten free...if you find them in a health food store, read the label to be sure. I haven't bought them in a long time, but I think at least they used to be gluten free, and hopefully still are.

I haven't been able to find any that are gluten-free.

First cousin dx'd with Celiac Disease

Grandmother died of malnutrition b/c everything made her sick... sounds like celiac to me.

Gluten-free since June 2005

Dx with IBS February 2005

Blood tests both negative (or inconclusive?) for celiac (in 2002 and 2004)

Gardenburger's Black Bean burgers and (Soy) Flame Grilled Burgers are marked gluten-free right on the box, as are Franklin Farm burgers, and I find both in regular grocery stores. Whole Foods, etc. also have gluten-free burgers.

Quorn is also really good - the "turkey" roast and "chicken" tenders (not breaded) are both gluten-free.

I also love tofu pups.

Sol burgers are terrific and they are wheat/gluten-free and come in everything from Tex Mex to about three other varieties.

I have looked everywhere for a hotdog. The pups that someone mentioned are still produced in a facility that contains gluten and unforunately I'm that sensitive that I stay away from that stuff. I'm not really a vegetarian anymore although I only eat meat a few times a month, if that. I have thought long and hard about eating a real hotdog because I really want one (pregnancy craving) but I just can't do it.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I went shopping last night and found several "meats." I was assuming that since all of the fake meats I had looked at previously had gluten in them, that all fake meats would have gluten. But I was wrong and can finally have a "burger" again (on my gluten-free bread)!

I've been following a low fat vegan diet for six years and a gluten-free one for almost 2 weeks. So I'm in the same boat. I haven't gone searching for any fake meats. I've cut back since I read the following about isolated soy protein, which many of these products have:

You can also make falafels for burgers (some prepackaged mixes have wheat, but some are traditional and just use beans).

Thanks for the links, I've read one and thought it was very good and I agree totally. I decided to include soy milk and tofu in my diet this year and not eat red meat from cows anymore. I eat buffalo if I want to come close in making a few of my favorite recipes. I never digested the fake of isolated soy proteins anyway so I guess that won't be a problems for me. I had my share of luna bars though :P

I had a Sol Burger for supper. It was delicious and very much like how I remember a meat burger.
