Chinese Food--is The White Sauce Ok?

We had Chinese food last night, and instead of the brown, soy-based sauce that I know contains gluten, I ordered the "white" sauce, which is a clear sauce that is seasoned lightly with garlic. I thought it would be safe, but perhaps not, since I've been having abdominal cramps/gas aplenty today. Does anyone know if the white sauce is typically gluten-free or not?

Technically it should be gluten-free. Did you tell them to make it gluten-free and use newly cleaned utensils and a clean wok? If not you can get sick. I found this out myself the hard way. I tried my local chinese place a few times without success. I explained everything to them but it never worked out for me. I now stick to PF Changs for gluten-free chinese where they are familiar with safe gluten-free food preparation.

Thanks for helping me solve this puzzle (I'm new at this). No, I did not ask for a clean wok and utensils. Normally I get the same dish steamed with the white sauce on the side and haven't had an issue. But last night they accidently stir-fried it and I ate it thinking the sauce was OK, without even realizing the wok/utensil issue. Argghh!

I hope you feel better soon. It happens to all of us, especially in the beginning.

I am starting to feel better now, thanks. I am going to try PF Changs next time, if I can find one in my area. If not, when it comes to Chinese, it will be steamed food only for me from now on.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
