Casein & Soy Intolerance

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I've been looking into Casein Intolerance and Soy Intolerance as I believe I may have them. I have some questions as I am still confused about a few things. First, how are the casein and soy intolerances diagnosed? Second, if casein is a problem would I still be able to drink skim milk? For some reason skim milk doesn't seem to bother me, but ice cream and cheese do. As far as the soy goes, I tried drinking soy milk and within 30 minutes I needed a bathroom. I want to figure out what is causing this and after eating limited dairy for a week I felt fine, until this weekend when I had a scoop of ice cream and cheese and crackers (gluten-free of course). I've had the breath test for lactose intolerance with negative results. Please help.

Skim milk still has casein. Casein in the protein in the milk, so is different from lactose.

If ice cream and cheese bother you, but skim milk does not, I'd blame the fat more than the casein. You might try keeping a food diary to note if you have reactions to fat or to milk.

Many people are sensitive to soy. If soy milk makes you sick, then don't drink it. Again, a food diary would be a good thing. You can cut it out completely, then try a product with soy lethicin in it to see if you react. Maybe you can handle some forms of it and not others.

You can diagnose yourself by elimination diet. There are some outfits that test your blood for food intolerances, but I don't know how accurate they are. I confirmed my casein and soy intolerances through Enterolab testing.
