My favorite frozen french fries say they are mfg in a plant that processes wheat. Does this mean I can't eat it? I'm just learning and very confused. Thanks!

Micah

This is a risk factor. I eat some things that are "manufactured in a facility....wheat". It just means that somewhere in the facility there's wheat. It doesn't tell you in what form or how close. On the other hand, there are others from which I have been glutened and I won't eat those brands again.

I personally draw the line at "manufactured on the same lines...." because I've gotten "got" by too many of those.

yeah i don't like to risk it either. i used to buy beans from walmart that said that on the cans, and just washed the beans really well, but i don't eat beans anymore.

I just inquired about the FritoLay product contamination.. and regardless of what people say, I might try it a few more times, but I am starting to feel like it definitely DOES matter. I've been sick when the bag/box says that stuff.. maybe not all the time, I don't know yet..But I would rather be feeling good than feeling sick because I thought something might be ok. Its just not worth it.

Thanks so much. I may have to start mfg my own french fries...

But I haven't been gluten-free long enough yet to tell if those frozen ones make me any sicker. I guess I'll go off of them for now and test them later when I'll be more sensitive to gluten.

Thanks!

My mom used to make us our own french fries! just cut up a potatoe and fry it in oil. They are really good!!! My sister used to slice potatoes really thin and then fry those so that they kinda resembled a fry/chip. then she'd put powdered ranch or bbq seasoning on them (I know that stuff has gluten alot of times.. but any kind of powder, whether its a seasoning for meat or a salad dressing mix, would work good if you like the flavor and can verify its gluten-free!)

Make your own fries! A fry shouldn't have anything in it but potato. Dust lightly with salt and/or pepper, and for a tasty treat, herbs. You can also top it with garlic and fresh grated parmesan cheese, yum.

If you have a wegmans near you they label all their gluten free stuff.

Fries as many have said are really easy to though. I cut up a potato in wedges and put it on a pan on tin foil then drizzle with olive oil and seasoning, I use McCormicks brand and bake till brown stirring the pan once. If I am in a hurry I will microwave it for a minute first. You can do a lot with the humble tater.

You could try Cascadian farms.

I just had this happen to me this week. My husband bought some corn tortillias that had that warning on them. I did not realize he had bought a different kind and ate part of one. I had put some tomato product on it like a baguette but didn't like the taste so I only had 2 bites. The next day I was in so much pain and couldn't figure out what I had done. Then it dawned on me that he had gone to Wal-Mart not the grocery store whose brand we normally buy. I went and checked it out and sure enough it was not my brand. I have had this happen to me twice now with two different brands of corn tortillias.

I think sometimes the pain described here can be a result of a sort of 'perfect storm' of contributing factors.  Recently I had an appalling bout of lower back pain, lower burning gut pain and what felt like cramps.  I then started to think about what could have caused it and I realised it was several things that had set it off: I'd been carrying heavy luggage (back strain); I had been sitting down in a car for too long and wearing a tight belt (I have pudendal nerve issues and sacroiliac issues and this exacerbates the pain), and I had bloating and burning pain in my colon caused by eating too much soy, latte and caffeine, I guess putting further pressure in the lower abdomen.  I had this same pain prior to my diagnosis and a couple of years post-diagnosis, I'd quite forgotten how unpleasant it was.

HI @Kirbyqueen That's great news your insurance will be kicking in soon.  Sorry to see that you have been dealing with this for six months now, but I do hope you have managed to find some relief with some of the suggestions in the meantime. Perhaps come back and let us know what the doctor says. Cristiana

I agree, and hopefully your doctor will contact you soon about the next step, which will likely be an endoscopy to confirm your diagnosis. Do you have celiac disease symptoms?

Still dealing with this rash on my legs. I've eliminated ringworm (through use of topical ointments). And I also know it's not shingles, as I've never had chickenpox before and I'm still fairly young. Through a lot of online research, I'm leaning more towards dermatitis herpetiformis, eczema, or psoriasis. I've actually got a doctor's appointment in May (finally got some insurance) and I'm going to bring it up then. I'm feeling really hopeful and excited to maybe be getting some relief soon.   Big thanks to everyone for the suggestions and positive thoughts!

You have three celiac disease specific antibody tests that are positive: Endomysial  Antibody IGA (aka, EMA), tTG-IGA, and tTG_IGG. Furthermore, your Immunoglobulin A at 55 is low, meaning you are IGA deficient. This one is not an antibody test for celaic disease per se but a measure of "total IGA" levels and if low (yours is low) it can suppress the individual antibody scores and even cause false negatives. So, yes, it definitely looks like you have celiac disease.   Do not yet begin a gluten free diet as your physician may refer you to a GI doc for an endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel lining for confirmation of the antibody testing. This may help:
