Hello everyone,

So, I had a really great workout at the gym yesterday - Cardio, Triceps, Biceps ... and then, the Charger football game - Chips, dip, more chips, a couple Redbridges ... (as the game wore on, the muching increased). Oh well - at least I had my great workout to fall back on.

So, I've got this monsterous dentist appointment on Wednesday set up. Upper right quadrant - predicted to be about a 2 hour appointment under light sedation, and then, Saturday morning I'm flossing, Right? Clink ! I lost a crown - same quadrant, but a new problem. So, now, what was predicted to be about a $1500.00 appointment has now turned into a potential nightmare. How am I going to work out after that? In addition to that, I now have this gaping hole in my smile - very attractive. <_< Hopefully, it'll be less nightmarish than I'm thinking it will. I guess we'll see.

As I continue to work out, I'm noticing subtle changes & liking what I see. Of course, progress is never quite as rapid as we'd like, but progress is progress. I've lost 3/4 of an inch in each thigh since Mid-August. My long term goal is to remain active over the "winter" (not much of a winter in San Diego, but I'm a weather wimp) and not gain like I usually do.

Today: looking to get 45 minutes of some sort of cardio/fat burn & maybe chest & back.

Have good days,

k

Fajitas,

Hope your appointment goes better than you think and doesn't cost too much. I didn't think it was very likely crowns would fall out. Did you have it long?

Glad to see your noticeing some changes. That's a great incentive to keep going. I struggle in the winter with working out too. Something happens to me and I think I'm supposed to eat a lot and hybernate in the winter. I have a really hard time staying motivated. I did a little better last year when I bought a really nice jogging suit that is wind resistant and forced myself to go outside to jog, unless the weather was below freezing. I do better when I get out in the fresh cold air, it's just a real struggle to get there.

So far so good today:

B: Perky's rice cereal, soy milk, ground flax seed and sunflower seeds.

L: Leftover dinner from last night: about 1/2 cup shrimp alfredo and a chicken salad.

S: 10 rice crackers, an apple

D: Chicken with raw broccoli, raw carrots and raw celery in dip.

S: Edit: 1/2 cup lowfat ice cream, 1/2 banana and chocolate syrup (of course!)

Exercise: Jogged 3 miles, total body weight workout 1/2 hour

I'm back on track with the exercise - got to the gym Tuesday, Thursday and tonight, in addition to teaching PE on Tuesday, Wednesday and today. But can't get it together with the eating. Arrgghh... I easily succumb to temptation. Maybe I'll just plan a "free" weekend so I don't feel guilty, get it all out of my system and then start fresh on Monday.

Good on you Liz - you're doing great. The eating thing will pull itself together when you're ready. I give myself "free" days too - and I do take advantage of them, but it seems to keep me from going completely mad. Those free days seem to get less and less appealing the more I work out & feed myself the good stuff.

Yup. It didn't so much fall out as it popped off. Seems the cement was loose probably. I talked to the gal this morning and she said that it was really nothing to be anxious about. He may be able to re-bond the same crown (I still have it). Hopefully, that's the case. Actually, we agreed that it was really a blessing in disguise that it popped off before the work was done rather than after. And, I've only had it for a couple years, but it was never quite right.

"Winter" hits me the same - hibernation, lots of comfort-type foods, and most of the time, I get the winter blues. The trick for me this year will be to continue to work out. Hubby and I have decided it's time to get back in the game - so far, so good.

Poor Kat, having to go to the dentist. I hate them as much as I hate going to get a warrant of fitness for the car. My last few experiences haven't been too bad, but I remember once coming out and my knees were actually knocking together, I was actually so terrified, but there was nothing wrong.

As for winter, I have just gone through our winter without putting on weight but loosing 6kgs. So if I can do it, anybody can. I always dreaded winter, as I tend to eat so much in the way of comfort foods and put on the weight, but my comfort foods, which used to be pastas, and stodgy foods etc do not have the same appeal as before, and are not as readilbly accessible. I don't know why I don't like them anymore, probably just too stodgy. But I am fine with that and can live with that. I have already been tucking into salads, but since I am on holiday they have been on hold, but roll on next week I will be eating more salads in rice paper. Makes it so easy to eat.

Yesterday I had

Breakfast: Yoghurt and muesli

Snack: Left over potato, ham and blue cheese, banana

Lunch: Corn crackers with marg and vegespread, 2 kiwis

Tea: Baked chicken, potato, peas, corn and some chocolate.

I have my off days too, but I get the terrible feeling of guilt!

I loved the old weight loss support thread and was active on it, but it kind of died and lots of the people who were on there no longer post here. Would anyone else like to join me in a new thread where we can encourage each other, give advice (when asked for), support each other and have a way to be "accountable"?

I lost 12 pounds earlier this year, but have gained 3 back. I'm looking to lose 15 more by the time school starts in the fall. I need to eat relatively low carb - lots of lean chicken, turkey, fish, non-starchy vegetables, moderate amounts of fruit, nuts, avacados and 1-2 small servings of grain products a day. No sugar, chips, junk food or processed food. I'll be giving up chocolate until my birthday on Sept. 3rd. It helped last time - I gave up chocolate for Lent.

I hope some of you will join me! Jerseyangel, Kaycee, Fajitas, Electra? Anyone else?

Support to all of you. I don't see any sense in posting my food, since it's become so limited, but I love reading what other people get to eat :)

Since I'm down to basically fruits, veggies and fish, I find myself constantly hungry, so I stuff myself. I'm still losing weight, but about 2 pounds per month.

Hi, I am new to doing this kind of stuff on the computer so I hope I dont have 3 postings on the same subject!!

I have had celiac for 2 years , I have gone from 118 pounds to 148 and cant seem to loose any weight. I got so discouraged I threw out my scale. I exercise regularly and am careful on what I eat but nothing.

Also If you buy a product that is gluten free but says its made in a factory that processes wheat is it safe to eat???

I dont know anyone else with Celiac and my dietitian knew less than me.

Would love to join the thread,

Thanks

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the gym. It's shocking.

Today: did 45 minutes cardio - later I'm going to attempt Chest & Back again (just didn't have it in me yesterday).

Hey - there's that cat again !

If you're down to fruits, veggies & fish, I can see why you're constantly hungry. I think it's supposed to be that way.

Hi Deb,

You've joined the thread. You're here ! We're glad !

Okay - my guess would be that you're eating lots of "gluten-free" products. Maybe too many starches too. We have a tendency to think that because we can't have bread, we have to fill up on starches. I try to keep my starches to 1 a day (but, admitedly, it's easier said than done - I'm pretty undisciplined).

Edit: Forgot to say that ideally, you'd be taking in lots of fruits & veggies for your carbs instead of gluten-free stuff (but that somehow seems over-simplified).

I'm not the person to answer about the made in a factory thing but ...

Welcome !

Have good days all !

Hi Blanche and welcome!

The thing about the "made in a factory with wheat" really comes down to how much you know about the factory and how much risk your willing to take. I just recently had a problem with KAME rice crackers that is made in a factory and on the same lines as wheat products. My personal opinion is that I will eat it if it's made in the same factory, but not on the same production lines. I think the risk is too high when something is made on the same lines, as I recently experienced.

Food today:

B: Perky's, soy milk, flax seed, 1/2 banana

S: 1/2 oz mixed nuts, applesauce

L: 1 cup lentil soup, 10 rice crackers, cantaloupe

D: 3 shrimp, 1 king crab leg, scalloped potatoes, lima beans and corn and chocolate pudding

S: Hopefully none, but will edit later if I do eat anything

Exercise: 50 minutes yoga tape, 20 minutes Kathy Freidrick ab tape

Hello all

I am expecting a busy night, so here is what I ate after I woke up

up at 2pm

coffee

gluten-free vann apple cinniamin waffles :P

DDP

my meal for tonight is

Salad from the salad bar with my own gluten-free dressing

brown rice tortilla with sunshine patty and gluten-free cheese

And then I will be off until Monday I can't wait

If I have time tonight I am going to walk the mile that the hospital has marked out for the employees here, I figured that if this wieght is going to come off which I am stuck at 153lbs, I need to step it up a bit, even if I still have pain/swelling in my ankle and foot that I broke, that is supposidly healed, I will take it easy not going to junp around and hurt any more than it does. I finally made my appointment with my Orthopedic doc for my foot to see why the ankle is swelling, hopfully he won't feed me any bull about the ankle needs to heal some more and I'll be fine. I don't think so because I think that I tore the ligament again when I broke my foot in March, the same ligament I had repaired when I was 14. Ok so anyway I am getting off the subject of weight loss. I'm walking tonight, tomorrow before I go to bed I am walking the dog.

Weigh In:

I've finally lost that last pound of the 5 that I gained in August when I attempted to quit smoking. That puts me at 158. So, I'm back where I started now. I can't help but imagine what it'd be like if I had never gained that 5. I'd be pretty close to my goal weight now, but as it stands, I'll be working to drop that last 5 to 8 lbs over the next couple months.

I've only worked out twice this week - got all weirded out about my teeth thing. That situation is not exactly a happy one, but nothing too devastating. I'm slowly getting over it.

Here I go - another week of goals:

I'd really like to do at least 4 days of cardio and somehow work in a few upper body weight resistance workouts.

Have nice weekends.

Ok, so I did not walk at work as expected we were really busy with cry babies in the nursery and I'm not talking about the babies well that too. All the nurses and techs like to come into my nursery and vent about who they are working with and or the patients that they have who are really disrupting there busy night. I really don't mind people coming into my work space and talking about things but what I really mind is people coming and talking about people and accusing me or the nursery staff having big mouths, I try to keep my mouth shut most times when people come in to vent, listen to them inbetween my duties. I don't go to those people and tell them what was said, I just don't because I don't want to get into the middle of things. Well the other night there were some conflicks with nurses and tech one could not find the other and one started talking bad about other people like that don't working with certain people. and People automatically asume that it is the nersery staff who tells what is going on  I can't stand it. I got into a confrention with one of the nurses about what was said, she came into the nursery and said someone found out because of ears and mouths in the nursery, we are not the only ones there  it is not just the nursery I said and then the nurse said don't get and attitude with me about it  Oh I was so mad.

Ok sorry about that rant here is what I have eaten since Thursday

Thursday night at work 12:30am

Brown rice tortilla, sunshine patty with gluten-free cheese

salad with sunflower seeds, and gluten-free dressing

3 pickels

DDP

Vitamin water fruit punch

Up at 2pm

Coffee

D- spegetti with cheese and gluten-free english muffin toasted with butter and garlic

2 glasses of tea

water

Friday

B- gluten-free Maple buckwheat flakes with Dairy ease milk

starbucks Carmel Moacheato

nothing planned for dinner tonight I have not a clue as to what to fix without going grocery shopping first.

Happy eating this weekend

Hi ,

I dont know if its the change in seasons or what but I really am not into food that much recently.

I have been eating egg beaters scrambled, coke for lunch brown rice and tuna fish for dinner.

I try to do a power yoga dvd or walk around the lake near me but dont have much energy.

A friend of mine who is a personal trainer told me to sit on an exercise ball while watching t.v as this will work your abs. I tried it last night and it really does work!!

This is an interesting thread. The flow is strange. Anyway, I'm hopping in for my weigh in.

I've lost another pound. This is an important pound. It's the one I've been waiting for (gaining that 5 pounds in August really made this a pain).

I'm at 157 and definitely gaining muscle tone. My waist is closer to 32 than 33 inches.

I've been working out off and on, but around 4 times a week. BUT ... It's my diet that's really changed. For the last 4 days (and feeble attempts before that), I've been eating using The Zone principles - strictly.

Bla, bla bla --------> But here's the thing I'm realizing. The hard part of losing weight is that you have to stay on the program for long enough to actually lose the weight. I know it sounds elementary, but it's just that if you have a binge 3 days into it, you've basically stopped the loss by replacing the calories you lost the days before. That stops the losing and you're starting over. Every time I binge (I mean, not serious binge - just naughty stuff), it prolongs the agony. And, what I want is to get to the point of maintenance - where I can continue to eat healthy foods and exercise, and be happy to live a healthy lifestyle, but have a treat once in a while without paying the price.

Oh Yeah, I'm ready for maintenance.

Way to go Kat!

Yes, this is an interesting thread. I guess this means that most of us aren't being disciplined with our diet. I've been working out really well, 4-5 times a week with lots of cardio, but just can't get it together with the eating. Not that I'm really bad, but just too much food. I'm always gluten-free, but I'm eating too many treats.

Here's hoping that we can all get back on track soon!

Good for you Kat! It must be great to have reached your maintenance weight. Way to go!

I think what you say about binging is so true. I tend to give myself little treats when I think I've done really well for a while (or sometimes just a day). I don't know why but I think I need a reward when I'm doing well. I'm sure it makes the weight loss so much slower.

I haven't posted my food and exercise, but overall I'm doing really well. I actually weighted 132.6 on friday and 132 is a number I have not seen in a VERY long time. It seems to be the number I fight so hard to get to and is almost impossible to get under. So, now I think it is time for me to become very strict in my exercise and eating so I can beat that number!

Hello all, yes I am working tonight. Over the weekend I have not eaten great over the weekend and I am paying for with some really bad gas in my back between my shoulder blades. I went to my nieces birthday party and had brownies not gluten free and Icing that my mom made which I just can't resist, cheese and spinch dip which is the cause of my gas. Spinch does that to me I have found out the hard way but I ate it anyway :( I have started to exerice but it is only benifiting my foot that I broke in March. I have been having some swelling and I went back to my Ortho doc and he gave me some exercises for my foot and to ice it down every day, and take Motrine for the swelling which is hurting my stomach but I am taking Nexium so it is helping some. The one exercise that I have been doing for my foot ankle is the one that you raise yourself on your toes well I can do it just fine with both but when it comes to just using my left foot the one I broke I have no strength in my ankle and can only raise it 1/2 an inch off the ground and then it hurts after but I am tregding through it. I have to go back in 4 weeks so he can reevaluate the ankle and if it is still swelling the next step is to do an MRI to see if the tendons and ligaments are still intacked.

My meals today

B- gluten-free waffles

Milk

coffee

D- chicken fajaitas with beans, guacomole and sour cream on gluten-free brown rice tortillas

DDP

DDP on the way to work

and my meal tonight at work

gluten-free sandwiche with ham and cheese

salad with sunflower seeds and gluten-free dressing

3 pickles

Happy eating this week everyone

Oh ya! my weight for this week is 150lbs

Hello all, no I am not working, I finally got a computer at home even though I am renting it, going to the Library is too much sometimes having go wait to get on and then I have only an hour to use the thing that is a waste of a good day. I also worry about if the person who used the computer before me was sick with the flu or a cold or anything like that. I also can't always use the computer at work because they monitor internet usage and some people have gotten their privialges taken away, I also have to stay focused on my babies in the nursery.

Hi everybody,

Haven't worked out this week, and had a major binge last night. I've been eating pretty well except for the snacks yesterday. Geez, I had 6 good days. Now, I've got to get back on the wagon. I'll be in Oahu for a while soon. Hopefully I won't gain that 5 back while I'm there !

Okay, Me, Ranting about my teeth - But the main point is this: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Go to a good dentist !

So, here it is: After I lost the crown (a couple weeks ago), the dentist wanted to pull the tooth and for me to prep for a dental implant, but said he'd try a post build-up crown if I wanted him to (this is my new dentist - biological with a good reputation - Love him !). Of course, I'd rather have the crown, so today, we went in - for 2 hours. OMG ! He couldn't believe what happened with this tooth. He found a metal piece from a scraping instrument, 3 obscure metal threads (he said he didn't even know what they were), and major infection that has probably been going on for a couple years. He asked me a few times about if I'd been sick or fatigued from the infection. Well, I think we may have at least one answer to my perpetual laziness ! And there's actually more, but I won't go into it. Anyway - now I have to go have a 2nd root canal (the first one on that tooth was around 2 years ago). Sooooooo, that's my story. GET A GOOD DENTIST ! Take care of your teeth, people. This is going to be quite a monetary investment.

Take care - work out - eat right ... & FLOSS THOSE TEETH <_<:D

Hi everyone! I've been doing my homework and reading the back-logs of this thread so please can I join? I am 2 months into eating gluten-free and put on 5 kilos - not much, BUT I AM GETTING MARRIED NEXT YEAR and I've already got the dress... :o

So I need to get off at least 7 kilos (or tone up this gluten-belly of mine).

I am in Aussie so had to do kilos, but found a weight converter so I can understand where all you guys are at. I am currently 59.2k (130p) and want to get to 52 (114p).

I have only just had the lightbulb moment last few days about all the processed, sugar-full gluten-free food you can buy is not so good, and that potatoes and corn makes me FAT!! So it's all tuna, veges and fruit from here.

I have 2 darlings that I run about with most days, but also am going to walk with neighbour most nights.

Since going gluten-free I have had intense sugar cravings, mostly at night (icecream and chocolate flake time), any ideas of yummy, healthy and NOT fattening snacks for that time (is there such a thing?)

Thanks and hope I can join...

Misswingbat, welcome, yes please join in. Thank you for converting kilos to pounds, that helps alot. When you lose the 7 kilos that will be a good excuse to get a prettier dress if the alterations can't be done, if the Bridal shop will be able to take the dress back. Before I went gluten free I ate alot I really could not get full and when I would eat a big meal I in turn was hunger an hour later, and I know now that when my stomach would burn before the heartburn would kick in, I would eat again because I sometime mistacking took it as hunger pains. When my husband and I were out shopping or something like a movie, I would have Breakfest go to a movie and I would get Nachos (chips and cheese sauce) and after the movie maybe 2 hours later I would want to eat again. My husband just thought that I was crazy for wanting to eat so much and I am only 4feet 11 inches tall and I was just getting bigger and bigger. When we met 9 yrs ago I weighed 120 our daughter later I ballooned to 160 pounds. After starting my gluten free diet I have lost 10 pounds my goal is to get back down to 120. I did lose 14pounds last year until my results on my endo and colon scopes came back negative so I ate gluten again and all the weight came back. I am tring my best to be glutne free but it is hard especially when I am around my husband who likes food and go out to eat on the weekends. So my weekends are filled with gluten dodge ball, I try to order the foods that don't have sauces or gravies and most times I'm ok and other times I am not. So any way here is what I ate since my last post.

I did not have the pizza but i ate too much anyway

chinese 2 chicken and pinapple screwers

I agree, and here is an older article on this topic:

She should be tested for 25(OH)D vitamin D blood level.  Most newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease are disturbingly low.  Malabsorption syndrome causes poor dietary absorption of vitamin D orally and super high sunscreens block skin production.  Hypervitminosis D which nearly every article written warns of, is a very rare disease. Many these days drink bottled water so do not get the benefit of floridation.  I had lots of cavities as a kid and when they floridated the water I stopped getting cavities.  Of course in those days all we had for sunscreen was baby oil and that "don't be a paleface" stuff, so we actually got vitamin D from the sun.  Celiac Disease uses a lot of vitamin D to control the immune system response to gluten, but we don't get enough. Iodine can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and may be more effective when used in combination with fluoride.  Get her medium urinary iodine concentration (Muic) tested for iodine intake deficiency.  In the last 30 years iodine levels have fallen by 50% in the United States.

When my son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 1976 as soon as he was weaned, his doctor insisted that we feed him only Nutramigen it was the only hyperallergenic with complete nutrition.  Enfamil and Similac were not acceptable if we wanted him to get healthy.  For one thing they had no  choline back then. Given the lawsuits against them now, he was right. He spent about 6 months on the Nutramigen formula exclusively and weaned off of that to a gluten free diet and thrived. He also predicted that by kindergarden the teacher would beg us to put him on Ritalin, which he took all the way through High School.

Check the label and tell us what kind of B12 is in your gummies.   If it's Cyanocobalamin, switch to a methylated (active) form of B12.   Some of us need to take the active form of B12 because our bodies have problems turning other forms of B12 into the active methylated form due to MTHFR genetic variations.   Take a B Complex supplement, too, because B12 needs the other B vitamins to function properly.

Hi! I've been gluten free for years. No surgery,  but have dumping syndrome symptoms,  particularly if I've eaten a lot of FODMAP foods, or xanthan gum, or any other gums that are in many gluten free foods. You may want to stop eating foods with gums and see if that helps!
