I'm Leaving For Germany Tomorrow

Hello everybody,

I just thought I'd let you know that I will be leaving tomorrow for Germany, and won't be back for six weeks (on August 17th).

I don't expect to be able to check in too often while I am gone. I hope all of you have a great summer. I checked the weather report for Hamburg, Germany, and the next ten days is nothing but cold temperatures and rain (most days call for severe thunderstorms). I have my rain jacket and umbrella in my carry-on, so I am definitely prepared!

I'll 'see' you all when I get back!

Hope you have a great time! :) Let us know how you find eating gluten-free there...my fiance is (half) German, and we plan on touring there at some point.

Ursa,

Have a good, safe trip! I'll miss you around here, but I know how much you've looked forward to this trip, and I'm so glad you're going to be able to spend some time over there.

Hope that rain goes away quickly and you can enjoy better weather while there.

Take care, and have a nice, relaxing time :)

I don't know if you will still see this, but I hope you have a wonderful time!

We've had lots of rain and thunder here in Holland as well. Yesterday evening we had lightning cracking straight above the house, scary...

Oh awesome. Have a great time! Would also love a gluten-free report, as I'll be going there in November for two weeks.

Constantly! I don't want everything to cost as much as a KIND bar, as great as they are.  Happy most of the info is available to us to make smart decisions for our health, just need to do a little more research.

Be sure to keep eating gluten daily until all testing is completed.  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

You can always to the gluten challenge later, after your pregnancy, should you need a formal diagnosis. I think it's best to play it safe in this case.

Very true. I also suffered from candidiasis which had affected my intestines and toes. I think this might have triggered my gluten intolerance/celiac.

Welcome to the forum community, @Jesmar! The HLA DQ2 and DQ8 genes were the original halotypes identified with the potential to develop celiac disease. Since then, other genes have been discovered that apparently afford a predisposition to celiac disease. As is always the case, these new discoveries are not yet common knowledge and not yet widely dispersed in the medical community. It is not genetically as black and white as we once thought.
