Symptoms Of Gluten Pr Lactose Intolerance?

I was diagnose 2yrs. ago with gluten intolerance through entero labs. My 10 year old son seems fine, but it seems that at least once a month(lately) he has diareaha or vomiting which usually lasts only a few hours to half a day. He eats gluten lite at my house, but gets a lot at his dads. I also have noticed that the last 2 incidents have occured after eating pizza and ice cream (happened 2x in a week). The pizza at my house was gluten free. I am wondering if this could be lactose intolerance. Can this cause vomiting? I thought lactose only caused constipation or diareaha. Can gluten intolerance symptoms come and go? It seems that some of these incidents happen after dairy, and some after gluten. Once it happened after my mom bought him a big cinamon roll. Sometimes it happens within an hour and other time a half day later. What do you think. I am also mildly lactose intolerant and so is my mom. Most of the time though he eats and is fine. Weird.

My daughter had intermittent symptoms of pain from gluten for months, maybe years, until she started having it all the time. It took six weeks for the pain to go away completely after stopping gluten. The intermittent nature of your son's digestive problems could be the start of it if my daughter's experience is typical.

she was also lactose intolerant by the time she was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. She now is able to eat a bit of dairy for the first time in months without appreciable problems.

Symptoms can definitely be intermittent and change in response time for both gluten and lactose. Sometimes lactose gives me severe stomach pain, sometimes nothing. I have never vomited from it, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people do.

I'd suggest getting him tested for gluten and lactose or doing an elimination diet. Testing might be the way to go if you will have to convince his father it's necessary.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
