Amino Acid Supplements- Will They Help?

I've had stomach and digestion problems (bloating, feeling of fullness, etc) for the past 3 years and none of the doctors I've seen have been able to diagnose anything. The only thing my gastro found was some irritation in my intestine. I felt horrible whenever I ate carbs so i tried to steer clear of the obvious (breads, crackers, etc.) I recently had a celiac test and it came back negative but I decided to go on a gluten free diet anyway just to see if I would feel better and I have. It's only been two weeks but my bloating has gone down and I'm starting to feel better. I've been reading a book called Diet Cure and the author recommends taking numerous amino acid supplements a day to help with energy levels as well as cravings. Has anyone tried amino acid supplements- do they work? I'm always fatigued, yet exercise regulary and get a solid 8 hrs of sleep every night. I've also had a throbbing headache for the past week which I'm assuming is from the gluten withdrawl. When will it get better???!!! Any advice from someone experiencing the same would be much appreciated!!

Thanks!

Hi,

I haven't read the Diet Cure, but I have been taking the amino acid Glutamine and it has helped me with the bloating and for some reason the brain fog also. Even pretty main stream websites say it is not only good for building muscle but also good for helping to heal the intestinal tract. The best way to take it is on an empty stomach. The only other supplements I take are a good probiotic and a B vitamin. Good luck with your healing.

Fermentation breaks down some of the gluten in wheat. Nowhere enough for a wheat dough to become gluten free, but the gluten may be significantly reduced. I think some pizzerias make the dough the day before and leave it overnight. The longer the microbes are acting on the flour, the better.

I am M 21 and I diagnosed myself after a week of fasting and slowly reintroducing stuff in my diet except gluten, I had terrible eczema scars ,dandruff and brain fog, now I am free after 6 years of just pain, I am 6'2, will I grow taller? And since I am a gymnast will my muscles grow like quicker, cause before no matter how effort I put in I just couldn't.

And the fact is, no two celiacs will necessarily respond the same to gluten exposure. Some are "silent" celiacs and don't experience obvious symptoms. But that doesn't mean no harm is being done to their gut. It just means it is subclinical.

Thank you, Trents.  I appreciate your helpful and friendly reply. It seems more likely to be a bug.  It has been a pretty severe bought. I feel that I don’t have enough experience to know what signs my little one shows after exposure to gluten.
