Mama's Fish House In Maui

Recommended Posts

Eating out while on vacation or traveling often is not an enjoyable experience but last week while kicking back in Maui friends convinced my husband and I to take a drive to Mama's Fish House near Pala, Maui. What a fantastic experience. I did what I always do and asked the waiter for his gluten free recommendations. He came back with the chef and they provided some terrific options and shared that many of the staff had either Celiacs or were not able to have gluten. They assured me they are very careful of cross contamination issues and provide gluten free sauces if I choose to have items like sashimi and would like soy sauce. The waiter came out with a first plate of appetizers and provided mine on a separate plate and they were all a little different than the rest of the group - they were all gluten free. I had many options for my main course - so choosing was difficult for a change.

If anyone is headed to Maui - Mama's is a must. It is expensive, but one of my most memorable enjoyable eating out experiences since being dxd. THe restaurant and its grounds are also absolutely beautiful. For more info go to: www.mamasfishhouse.com

Enjoy!

While we didn't make it to Mama's while we were there in the beginning of November, we went to Sansei twice (there's one in Kihei and one in Kapalua, not to mention two other islands), and had *fabulous* sushi. They had also dealt with gluten-free requests before, and were very good about modifications and checking on things.

Also in Pa'ia was Mana Foods, which had a great selection of gluten free options - both grocery and hot bar. (Down to Earth in Kahalui, which was mentioned on here before, did as well.)

I also had a great experience at Mama's Fish House - they were very knowledgeable & the food was delicious! Another restaurant on Maui that is also very good, in fact I went back there more than once, is Pacific O in Lahania. The waiter said they had a list posted in the kitchen every day for the fresh gluten free fish preparations & they used different plates for their gluten free customers. It was also excellent food.
