Need Replacement For Red Hot Candies

I wanted to make these Christmas "candies" that my Mom used to make. They were similar in principle to rice krispy treats, only they used cornflakes and green food dye. The idea is to form them into little holly berry clusters by placing 2 or 3 red hots on each little pile. But my son has an allergic reaction to Red Dye #40.

Can anyone suggest a substitute to the redhots that would be gluten free and red dye 40 free?

Might take some creativity here-

How about some red jelly beans? Or you can use some colored frosting. I don't know what Red #40 is in, but you can look around.

How about dried fruit like dried cranberries? Might not be quite as bright of red, but the effect should still be similar.

I contacted the Ferrara Pan candy company back in October and they emailed me a list of candies that are gluten free.

      Celiac Emotional Healing Support Group
      Again you are invited to join Johnny Patout, LCSW for Baton Rouge's first emotional healing support group meeting to assist those living with celiac disease manage the emotional challenges so many of us face. Most often the emotional disturbances include depression, disinterest in normal activities, insomnia, grief, mood changes, anxiety, inability to concentrate, extreme concern about managing a gluten-free lifestyle and other emotional and behavioral challenges.
      The professionals at Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center created the emotional healing support group to give us a safe place to begin to process our emotions and support each other as we heal emotionally while managing celiac disease and the resulting autoimmune disorders.

@Alaskaguy With regard to the timing, I think that everyone is a bit different! I used to have a shorter time to onset when I was first diagnosed (within 24h). As time has gone on, and I've glutened myself less and less, I have noticed that the time gets a bit longer.  Recent history seems to matter a bit too - if I've been glutened recently and then get glutened again, the rash will show up faster on the second round. For example, in the last 3 weeks I got slightly glutened by inadvertent
