are there any chinese dishes that are gluten-free? soy sauce has gluten but what about duck sauce, sweet n sour and the white sauce they use in some dishes? thanks

You never really know-- rarely are the ingredients in English. What I normally get is steamed chicken and broccoli with no sauce and white rice. If you add a little lemon juice it isn't bad-- boy do I miss good takeout!

Just came from our local Chinese place where I had a number of great dishes they prepared using San-J and another wheat/gluten free soy sauce. When I was first diagnosed in 06, I went over and talked to the owners who I know because we always ate there. I miss some of the things but for the most part they really went out of their way for me.

A number of visiting celiacs I told about this place have gone there and loved it too. Maybe its just a matter of being able to explain to them what you can and cant have. All the other sauces usually have some form of wheat or use starch like the white sauce. You have to make sure the white starch is 100% corn starch and not a mix. Also the noodles are 100% rice and not a mix. Good luck!

Now they cook for me (and for my sister, celiac too) rice, rice noodles, soy noodles, etc... all without soy sauce or anything else got gluten in it!

So my suggestion is: go to a restaurant and explain the situation, they will find a way to help you :)

      Celiac Emotional Healing Support Group
       
       
       
      Again you are invited to join Johnny Patout, LCSW for Baton Rouge's first emotional healing support group meeting to assist those living with celiac disease manage the emotional challenges so many of us face. Most often the emotional disturbances include depression, disinterest in normal activities, insomnia, grief, mood changes, anxiety, inability to concentrate, extreme concern about managing a gluten-free lifestyle and other emotional and behavioral challenges.
       
      The professionals at Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center created the emotional healing support group to give us a safe place to begin to process our emotions and support each other as we heal emotionally while managing celiac disease and the resulting autoimmune disorders.
       
      The emotional healing support group meets every Thursday, 6:00-7:00pm, at the Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center of Baton Rouge. Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center is located at 4637 Jamestown Avenue, Baton Rouge, Suite B-1. Suite B-1 is upstairs.

Kareng, I am a bit concerned by your statement here.  I no longer have "out of control" DH, but smaller, more scattered, and more readily resolving (for the most part) flareups.  And it may be that I am just having what would be "normal" for a person in my situation, being 'only' 13 months into the gluten-free diet.  I will readily admit, and perhaps should stress, that the situation is very much better than it was before I went gluten-free, including the fact that my former GI symptoms have tot
