Scone Recipe

I am looking for a recipe that comes as close as possible to an authentic English scone taste and texture - does anyone have a tried and true recipe that they are willing to share?

Dear Lisa, I just figured out how to make scones myself with a little help from a dear friend. I'm not sure if this is "authentic English" but I was trying to make something on the order of Great Harvest Bread scones that I ate pre-gluten free. They came out pretty close in taste, but a little more delicate in texture. Here is what I did:

1 cup Fearns white rice baking mix

1/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup soft unsalted butter

1/4 teaspoon almond extract

1 egg slightly beaten

1/3 cup half and half

1/4 cup dried cherries

Cut the butter into the baking mix and sugar. (kind of like when you make pie crust)

Add almond extract, egg, half and half. Stir until mixed but don't overmix

Drop by spoonfuls on a buttered cookie sheet

Bake about 12 minutes @ 375 degree until set and lightly golden brown

You can add anything that you like. Tonight I tried using vanilla extract instead of the almond and used mini chocolate chips.
