Just a word of caution, I contacted them about Hope in a Jar and When Hope is Not Enough. I was told that both were safe, not the case. Hope in a Jar was but the other wasn't. I don't think the unsafe list they gave you was a complete one. I would advise checking each individual product you want to use and be sure to ask them what any vit E ingrediets are derived from, they may think that the vitamin E derived from wheat is okay, which it isn't.

Thank you Dolcenotte!

If we band together we can get a lot of up to date information pretty quickly. Like you, I wasn't finding information about many of the brands I use here and there was no info on the company website.

Maybe you can email them back, since they were so quick to respond, with the vitamin e quesiton. It does matter-- I got zapped by a lipgloss thathad no overt gluten ingredients except the tocopherol. I put a picture of my DH rash on my website  Lucky it was just on my arm. :D

I only heard from about half of the companies I wrote.

Keep up the good work!

Lisa

This is what I got off the When Hope is Not Enough Jar...whats the bad ingredient?

Ingredients

Water (Aqua), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Lauryl Lactate, Pentaerythrityl Tetracaprylate/Tetracaprate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Cetyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Dimethicone, Ppg-2 Myristyl Ether Propionate, Glycerin, Cyclomethicone, Emulsifying Wax NF, DEA-Cetyl Phosphate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Peg-150 Distearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Panthenol, Allantoin, Tocophersolan, Beta-Glucan, Arginine, Dioscorea Mexicana Root Extract, Sodium Carboxymethyl Beta-Glucan, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Carbomer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sorbitan Oleate, Fragrance (Parfum), Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Disodium EDTA.

If its the Tocopheryl (vitamin E) then it can come from more then just wheat....its found in Wheat germ oil, nuts and seeds, whole grains, egg yolks, and leafy green vegetables. I will email them to ask them...i would hope that they would consider it gluten if it was from wheat ;)

Oh I hope they are gluten-free I love When hope is not enough. I love all their products!

Susan

If you are using it and not having any ill effects it most likely is safe. Companies do change formulations and it was a year or so ago that I checked. You may want to check and make sure. The items that differ in the ingredients in this as opposed to the Hope in a Jar are the alcohols and the fragrance and a number of other very chemical names. I am not a chemist and gluten ingredients can hide under a number of chemical names. I do so wish they would clearly label the source of all the chemicals they use, just telling us what the Tocepheral was derived from would help a lot.

The list that Moongirl gave:

"If its the Tocopheryl (vitamin E) then it can come from more then just wheat....its found in Wheat germ oil, nuts and seeds, whole grains, egg yolks, and leafy green vegetables."

These are food sources for vitamin E. In cosmetics and such the source is generally either soy or wheat.

Here is the response that I got.

Thank you for your patience. I was able to speak to our chemist and I was informed the vitamin e we use in our products is of synthetic origin. I hope this information is helpful. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know. Have a great day!

Its a good thing, but I wonder why their answers are not the same? Maybe different chemists? Either I can still use some of their stuff!

I think it means the same thing (thank goodness) Can you imagine if they said it does contain wheat? I would never be able to trust a company again! I guess the way they tell you the information is slightly different but along the same lines depending on who you speak with.

I wonder why they don't label it as the synthetic form then? The synthetic form usually has d- in front of the tocepheral. I would most likely try it if I recieved this response but I would do so when I was using nothing else that was suspect. I should note I have had no problems at all with the Hope in a Jar, in fact I find it quite nice, however the When Hope is not Enough did prove to be a problem for me. That does not however mean that others may not be able to use it safely. I just don't know as the company seems to give a different answer every time they are called.
