Milk?! Thoughts, Veterans, Anyone?

Hi everyone,

I've been gone for awhile working on a Master's degree... sigh. I've also been very well in the intestine dept., but I just spent three horrible glutened nights! The ONLY different thing is some Cumberland Farms milk. Does one have to be careful of milk? Or has anyone reacted to the Rice Chex? I hate these mysterious culprits and I KNOW when I've had gluten; it's like nothing else!

Did you make sure you ate the new rice chex that is certified gluten free? Old boxes might not be. Some people with celiac react to milk/casein the same as gluten.

I find my sensitivity to dairy to be pretty sporadic. Some days I can get away with dairy, other days forget it ! I can handle a little gluten free pizza with cheese but milk and cookies is too much (ugh, I love gluten-free chocolate chip cookies with a glass of milk). Sometimes I can handle a Dairy Queen sundae, others day I get mild stomach cramps a little while after. Dairy does seem to bloat me a little.

I dunno if it's the lactose of the casein. It might even be linked to a mild glutening - more susceptibility after (my family is not gluten free, just me - so I'm always possibly dealing with cross contamination).

Dairy sensitivity does seem fairly common amoung the celiac crowd.

That is how mine goes too. I can't drink milk or eat icecream, but I am ok with butter or sour cream.

So that could explain why some things bother us more than others.

Generally speaking I mostly drink soy milk or hemp milk (though hemp is kind of expensive I think). I like Living Harvest. Their vanilla is very creamy and it has a slighty nutty taste. It tastes different than reg milk though and not sure everyone would like it.

Thank you both. No, I don't have a problem with dairy. I was dairy-free for 2 years when I first went off gluten and it's been back in for a year now with no issues. I think this company might have some cc issues because I've never bought this type of milk before. And, yes, the Rice Chex say "gluten-free", though I don't trust much processed food- make most things myself and rarely eat any grains actually!

The mystery continues but thank you for your replies!

I was wondering what the cows were eating, since on other sections of this blog it is said that mothers that breastfeed can pass gluten in their milk... anyone want to speculate on this possibility ?

      Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
