Hi does anyone know of a doctor in central Massachusetts (around the Acton - Leominster area) that is good for evaluation of Celiac? One that takes his/her time and doesn't rush you out the door.

Thanks jl

I am not sure if you are looking for a straight MD or not but this woman has Celiac herself and is very good at diagnosing. She is a Naturopathic doctor and I am not sure if she accepts insurance......might depend on what you have. Her office is located in southern NH, not far over the Mass. border. I have seen her talk at conferences and she is very knowledgeable about celiac disease as a whole and it certainly helps she is one herself. I am sorry I can not offer a referral to an HMO doctor because I rarely go to one. They were the ones that got it wrong in the first place so I tend to avoid them like the plague.

I do know that Dr. Doherty spends lots of time with her patients and I have never heard of any complaints with her service.

Thanks gemini, I have an appt to see a gastroenterologist tomorrow. I have not been offically diagnosed as Celiac, my PCP tells me I am 'lactose intolerant' despite elevated IGg and Iga. I am going for a consult. Based on how this meeting goes I may be still be seeking for answers. I have been thinking about going to a naturopath, so this might be the alternative.

Thanks again for the help.

jl

So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
