Introducing Baby Cereal

Recommended Posts

My husband and I have a 6 month old baby. He just turned six months on Oct. 27. We are trying to figure out when and how is the best way to introduce foods that aren't gluten free? There is baby oat cereal and barley but I'm nervous about introducing them since I have celiac disease. My husband is allergy free. Any tips?

You could do what we did with our second son since our first has celiac...we had the genetic blood work done so we would have an idea of what we were working with. We figured that if he had the genes we would be on the look out for any symptoms but if he didn't we wouldn't be panicking at any little bit of D and fussiness.

Since my son has Celiac we never did introduce our 14 month old daughter to other cereals besides rice. I just didn't want to risk my daughter getting ill like my son did. She still has never had gluten. She eats all the same foods we eat. Our home is gluten free.

Dr. Green talks about bf, celiac, and babies in his book "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic" - particularly pages 73, 75-76 - and discusses the Swedish study as well.
