Theres A Squirrel In The Kitchen!

Recommended Posts

Today I came home, walked into my kitchen, and saw a brand new bag of gluten free cookies riped to shreds all over the floor. There were cookies everywhere and I just stood there in total confusion. Then I saw him....a squirrel sitting on the counter staring right at me. I screamed and grabbed for my broom! Well he didn't like the sound of my voice or something...cause that little cookie eating bastard lunged at me and ran right up my leg!!! Needless to say...I screamed again and ran outside as fast as lightning. Later on my boyfriend got the gluten free squirrel out, but my cookies....they are gone forever!!!

Squirrels are finks!! They eat the heads off of my flowering ginger if I dont scare them off. And I have to bring the orchids onto the porch once they start a little bud or they will eat the buds!!

Yup...they are b*st@rds!!

Sorry about your cookies.

OMG--a squirel running up your leg :o:o

I'd have screamed too--and probably passed out!:lol:

I have had some gnaw through an entire GAMMA SEAL lid to get to the bird seed inside a 5 gallon bucket! I would hate to think what they could do to a person's leg!

I sure did cringe when I saw that line. Squirrels can be mean, really mean, I mean really really mean when frightened. A freind and I rescued a litter when I was younger. A hurricane had knocked them out of a tree. She took 2 and I took one. One of hers died and I brought mine over to keep the remaining one company. They were raised to young adulthood then she went for a vacation and I was taking care of them. I went into feed them and I must have startled them or something cause they both went for an arm and latched on. Those little guys can really lock their jaws like a little bull dog. Even screamming and shaking my arms I couldn't get them off me and one attempt to pry one off just made him dig in harder. I finally grabbed one of her sweaters and they went onto that and the minute they let go of my arms I ran from the room, slammed the door and ran outside to break every window in that room. Not only did I get scars that are still there 25 years later but also got yelled at for breaking the windows and letting the squirrels escape. I no longer rescue squirrels.

I am so glad that little guy only ran up your leg, I can laugh about my squirrelly adventure but it did take a while.

BTW Sunflower seeds are like cheeseburgers to squirrels. They give them heart disease. And since squirrels will just eat and eat and eat...they can easily eat the equivalent of 20 or more cheeseburgers a day. My dentist told me that they used to have a large squirrel population until one of the hygienist starting bringing Sunflower seeds to put outside in a container by the windows so the patients could watch the squirrels eat. After a few months, there were no more squirrels. Then they learned about the Sunflower seeds/cheesburger connection. Im just putting a bit of information in here....do with it what you want.

Squirrels are like rats. They are rodent scavengers and they do carry rabies and other pathogens. Our dogs are hunters. Many a squirrel, possum, snake, mouse and bird have met their demise in our backyard. Even one kitty. I did feel really bad about the cat, but it had no collar, so we just buried it and said a prayer for the owners (whoever they were). We do love cats. It is just our dogs will kill them, so we dont have any. Anyway, we do what we can to keep the squirrel population down. I really dont like stepping in a pile of guts as I walk out the backdoor. And I couldnt see myself killing them directly. At least with the Sunflower Seeds they die happy. :P
