Can You Recommend Some Safe Canned Products?

I'm starting my new job Monday and am preparing a pantry so I'm never starved. I need some recommendations of canned foods (soups would be wonderful) that are gluten-free, Casein Free, Egg free and MSG Free. I've got a whole list of mug meals I can make, but it would be nice to have some I can buy right off the shelf. I'm longing for the old days of only having to find an MSG free brand. I'm also planning lots of leftovers and fruit. I'm just thinking ahead and of the huge volume of food I eat every day. I heard something about Progresso, but I don't remember much about what I heard.

Oh, and ham. I want to cook scalloped potatoes and ham. Does gluten-free ham exist?

I don't know about eggs and MSG but I eat CF and gluten-free and buy the Healthy Choice chicken and rice soup, you should check the Amy's brand too, some of them are CF. Some of the ones that come in cartons like Pacific and Imagine have CF "creamy soups like butternut squash, corn, roasted red pepper etc.

I would suggest the Hormel web site. They have a some gluten free stuff. Some is shelf stable like Dinty Moore Beef stew, and some is in the refrigerated section like the Italian Pot Roast.

It's not soup but I like the Thai Kitchen takeout meals.

The Hormel Natural Choice hams are gluten free, and it's even on the label. Also Boars Head deli meats (you could just have it sliced thick for your purpose) have it printed right on the front of the package, and I think all are OK.

Canned soups, Progresso has quite a few that are safe. At least, that are gluten free - you'll have to read them for the rest of the things you are trying to avoid. They have good labeling and if there's wheat, or flour, barley, milk, etc., it is in bold letters on their labels.

Health Valley Organics split pea is gluten-free.

If you have a Vitamin Cottage near you, they have gluten free food list at their customer service desk that they'll give you to pick products they stock. Whole Foods also has gluten free grocery list online, by location.

Oh, so much better than I was even dreaming. Keep em coming. I would almost seem normal to my coworkers my first week on the job if I opened up a can of chicken and rice soup and microwaved it. Well, normal except for the fact that I'll be asking for powder free gloves and treating the patient's crackers like a nuclear bomb.

Orgran makes a canned pasta that fits your description. You can get it online and I've seen it at some health food stores. It's quite sweet, so if you like Spaghettios, you'll like it.

Shelton's makes a chicken and wild rice soup and a chicken chili that are good.

Amy's makes some soups that fit your parameters. I no longer have any in the house because of daughter's pea and lentil allergies. I believe they also make a chili.

Hormel makes chili, beef stew and tamales that are good.

My daughter likes these chicken breasts.

Be sure to get only this flavor because the others contain cheese or other allergens. I serve them with a pouch of precooked rice from Trader Joe's or other places.

Most plain canned beans and other vegetables are fine. We like to get the little ones with pop tops. Just drain and eat out of the can, or nuke if you have a microwave.

Bush's baked beans are fine. Beware of chili beans. Most have gluten.

In a pinch, you can get a can of refried beans (all that I've seen are safe, but some have soy) or a can of Fritos bean dip and eat with corn chips. We usually buy Bearitos or some with Lame Advertisement seeds from the health food store, but sometimes we get Fritos. I know some people have problems with the Lays products, but we have not.

You can also get meals here:

Not all of them fit your parameters, but several do. They are kind of small though. If I send one in my daughter's lunch, I always have to add some fruit and vegetables.

It's also a symptom of EPI.

Yes.  Proportionately a small piece to a toddler is like a whole slice to an adult.  This is an important clue.  She was doing well, accidentally ate gluten and later the old behavior returned. I remember reading posts here of people reacting to a kiss from someone who had just eaten gluten. Recent research indicates that 40% of first degree relatives of someone with Celiac have undiagnosed Celiac Disease.  Father, mother, siblings.  There is a whole list of symtoms of "silent celiac".  Here is an article of symptoms possibly mistaken for other causes than Celiac Disease.  When I finally stopped gluten at 63 years old, I counted 19 things that improved, including lifelong mouthbreathing.  I never smelled bad things, so I as a kid, I learned to respond to the other kid's response in order to not seem weird. I really recommend you pursue testing for all the family if you can, and the whole family following GFD.  It is difficult at first, but the benefits will be worth it.

I get these but where we are, they are called chicken potstickers. I would obviously suggest that it is the ginger in the product that is causing a stimulative digestive effect! So you might want to do what I do, just cook one of them with the rest of your meal so you don't have the same effect. I love the Feel Good products but they are on the expensive side. (I also drink Reed's ginger brew so in general, ginger is a friend of mine..when delivered at the right dose). Hope this helps and have a warm healthy week!

Has anyone had Steatorrhea (oily/fatty poop) as a temporary glutening symptom or should I be concerned I've introduced chronic gluten somewhere (like in meds)? I haven't gotten Steatorrhea since before I went gluten free. However, I moved in the past few weeks and haven't been as careful - I've eaten at restauraunts with cross contamination but only experienced minor symptoms like headache. The past week, I ate only gluten free food at home except I went to Red Robin and got fries (told them gluten-free; allergy). The next day I had Steatorrhea and the day after that.   I know it's a symptom of malabsorption so I was wondering if it was the kind of thing that could be caused by one event or if it was due to a more chronic issue. Of course I will speak to a GI but I recently moved and need to find one.   Thank you for any info

A relative has opened another door for me on this issue -- the possibility of menopause raising HDL. Most studies suggest that menopause decreases HDL-C, however, one study found that often it's increased. "Surprisingly, HDL cholesterol was higher (p < 0.001) in postmenopausal women by 11%. Further, the number of women who had low HDL cholesterol was higher in pre vs. postmenopausal women. The range of ages were 26–49 years for pre-menopausal and 51–74 years for postmenopausal women. "This interesting finding has also been observed by other investigators. It is possible that the observed increase in HDL-C in postmenopausal women could be due to a protective mechanism to counterbalance the deleterious effects of biomarkers associated with menopause. However, further studies are needed to confirm this theory. And to the point raised earlier about functionality: "...some patients with elevated HDL-C concentrations could remain at risk for coronary events if HDL is not functional and some authors have suggested that this could be the case for menopausal women." Postmenopausal Women Have Higher HDL and Decreased Incidence of Low HDL than Premenopausal Women with Metabolic Syndrome. By no means to I think this is definitive, rather food for thought.
